With the abysmal Beatles (re-skin of Seawitch) and Munsters sales, and what looks to be tepid Black Knight demand... I'm beginning to wonder if the pinball renaissance is beginning to fade away.
I know Elvira's been in development hell for some time. You mean some sort of SAM or Spike 1 remake/rework I guess? Depending on what it is (and the pricing) that could still be fun if a letdown. A Batman '66 style approach would have been ideal, but there's room to work with if they didn't go too cheap. Just not another Whoa Nellie travesty like Primus.
Farsight still has an exclusive digital rights deal with Cassandra (Elvira) and they have already 'hinted' that this was the table that was being worked on, but they will not officially announce anything on those lets play streams. If anything, we might eventually get a blurb about it in one of the newsletters that usually end up in your spam folder.
As for Stern, they will probably let Elvira make the 'official' announcement since this is to be a 'boutique' release.
Stern is still the best made physical pin. However, poorly maintained machines is a huge problem and one of the reasons why you see so few operators put JJP, Spooky and other 'boutique' produced tables on routes is that they quickly and easily break down.
Zen chooses to alter certain table resources to comply with various console storefront requirements. Should they just not release these slightly modified tables on console?
No one wants the digital version of the Whoa Nellie table... Have you ever played one?
Did you know that Pinball FX has already done South Park and Family Guy tables?
They censored petty things like cigarettes, belly buttons, and yes, I prefer the tables as they were in the arcade. If they can't be presented as is don't waste time recreating them.
So far only tables released in Pinball Arcade are being recreated.
I've thought about getting the Big Buck Hunter / Big Juicy Melons table bundle, how is it worse than the Elvira table, which they censored in Pinball FX3?
Seriously, we're talking about Elvira in this thread and someone is going to diss Big Juicy Melons which is the same innuendo?
It sounds like you have issue with the ESRB ratings system. Take it up with them.
You know, there are tables in Pinball Arcade that couldn't be 100% recreated as presented too, but they released those and people are fine with it.
There isn't an Elvira table in Pinball FX 3.
Anyway, Whoa Nellie is a fine table to play at a bar with a few drinks and friends that don't normally play pinball. It isn't a very compelling table otherwise. No one dissed the theme on WN (though it isn't very #metoo era friendly) , the table would be trash no matter the theme; like when themed with Primus or Pabst or whatever else Stern attaches to it.
Oh, and to circle back around... WN is Sterns top earnings performer for operators. It doesn't break, has no toys, simple rules, short ball times... an operator's dream. But it is still a crappy pin.
I still have an old DVD of tables on the XBOX 360 not censored.
There are sexually explicit games on the 3DS/Switch/PS3 that are far worse than any pinball table. They could use a Teen rating for most of the tables but choose not to, does anyone seriously believe that pinball tables need E10 ratings?
No you don't. Censorship (as you put it) has been done to tables released in the Pinball Arcade on every single platform they are/were available.
You obviously have no clue how licensing and ratings systems work. Oh well.
I don't think you realize how many assets have been altered and/or made unavailable on various tables in Pinball Arcade. Funny thing is, Farsight has stated on a few occasions that they know they are still not compliant with storefront ratings and choose to play the security through obscurity game. Now ask yourself why Farsight doesn't get to work with Disney and other high profile IP holders.
They had even planned a Pinball After Dark version for the more mature themed tables. Which went nowhere.
PC pincab user here, so I'm fine with whatever Zen decides they need to do to make releasing tables financially viable. And as a father, I'm happy to know that I have choices.
By the way, can you point out where what Zen or Farsight has done with artistic changes has impacted game play in a negative manner? Would it have been better for these tables to never be digitally remastered in the first place?
