The game is quite fun at it's core but a lot of numbers need tweaking and Quality of Life improvements would not go amiss. Leveling feels way too grindy right now for a single player game. I had fun until I hit level 9 or so, I'm currently level 10 on my highest level character. At that point I tried to do the Molorai dungeon, the mine outside port azure, and the ogre cave. All the enemies are between blue and orange in difficulty yet even with a level 12 tank he just gets popped very quickly. The healthbars are also way too high, I'm getting very tired of just watching characters slowly dps a bullet spongey enemy for 5 minutes just to clear a trash mob. It seems like I just need to keep grinding that first dungeon in the area where you first arrive to Erenshore but I've already done it like 20 times and I'm just sick to death of it. I think the grind would not feel as bad if I could do the dungeons that are supposed to be for my current level range.

I'd also love to see some options to specialize into specific roles. Paladins can use 2h so let them have a dps spec for example.

Are you talking about the bonepits in the first area? I also heard you're supposed to grind it until level 11 which is boring.

yea that's what I'm talking about. If you are supposed to stay there til 11 they need to buff xp rate cuz it gets so boring
There does seem to be some ruts you can get into so far. There's that one and then another around 18-20. But 15-17 and then getting 18 was mega fast, at least for me. It's more when you get certain spells/abilities/equipment bumps and you can steamroll things for a while. Then you hit a rut.

Rotting Royal Hounds in the Lost Cellar for levels 14-18 will power-level you quickly.

EQ1 had these and called them Hell Levels. Though they were standard like 30, 40, 49/50, 59 (going off memory).

I'm in the 18-20 rut (currently 19) since I haven't gotten a Sivakrux to turn in to access a place I need for my level. Killing a guy for the key is not a possibility it seems as he's definitely not the level the wiki says lol.

I do think white+ cons need to give a bit more experience (maybe 50% more) and green should give 50% less. Right now it is much more efficient to grind on greens than take on white+ cons which take a lot longer to kill.
Leveling is fairly slow, but there are ways to speed through it if you really want to and look for them. I would recommend focusing more on gear than level's though, at least early. If you get good enough items on you and your team you can aoe grind mobs really efficiently and power level if that's what you want to do.

I ran bonepits 1 time total and never went back, but places with good gear like lost cellar, I focused more heavily on. (also only did underspine one time for the achievement then bailed.)
Where is lost cellar?

what is the bone pit? is that the first tomb dungeon i went in there and got some broken key but im unsure what else im supposed to do and i killed the world boss (plaxersasarus or whatever its called) beyond that im lost in the sauce.
Lost cellar is the one outside port azure, starts with beetles. You should farm outdoor named mobs and maybe a few quests first before going there, or they will slap you hard.

Coming into this as an old EQ and DAoC player, I appreciate the slow, grindy levelling.

They're talking about a different dungeon on the mainland (i.e. they're no longer on the tutorial island).

Do you have the whole key or just part of it? (And if so, which part do you have?)

Its in Port Azure, if you zone in from Faerie's Brake it'll be on your left before entering the main city gates.

Ok so there's this whole mystery going on with the pink smoke which you can see billowing up from pretty much anywhere on the island. Really, it's impossible to give hints about this mystery without mentioning something that somebody would consider a spoiler.

You've probably seen the cauldron the pink smoke is billowing out of. And if you talk to villager NPCs, everyone's wondering what kind of ritual is being performed.

The piece of a ghostly key that you've found is a small part of this mystery.

You may or may not want to stick around the island to solve the entire mystery. But if you're just itching to get off the island, you'll at least need the full ghostly key. Pay close attention to Plax's loot (the great beast of the island). Within that loot you'll find something useful. And keep dungeon-crawling. (The dungeon beneath the island is not as labyrinthine as it feels at first.)

In case you're interested in investigating the island's greater mystery, I'll give you a couple of more hints. Speak to the shady fellers performing the ritual at the cauldron. They won't say much, but what they do say will trigger a quest.

You can also speak to the NPC standing at the cliffside near where you fight Plax. Although he won't trigger a quest, he'll give you a cautionary tip. After you've heard his warning, ask yourself: What would a true adventurer do after hearing such a warning?
