Everquest Style Death
Hi, love the game idea here, good job. One question I have is if your Character dies, is it like Everquest, where you would return to your bind point minus all your items and money. You then had to go searching for your corpse to get it all back?
Thanks
Kevin

Hey Kevin!

Death works as follows:

If you're in a party and die, you remain there until combat ends.

It even one person in your party survives, you'll stand back up without penalty.

If someone in your party escapes by zoning out, you're zoned safely out with them.

If your party fully wipes, or if you die solo, you do return to your bind point, but you keep your items and money.

No experience penalties at the moment, but that may change into some sort of limited xp debt system. Depends on feedback.

I think adding configurable settings for the death penalties would be a good way to go about it, I personally dislike death penalties for normal play but they can make fun challenge runs

I think there should be the option of death penalties. Let people opt in to the penalties they do or do not want.

Yeah options for death penalties sound great, maybe also consider adding a hardcore mode for the truly daring out there.

Nooo to death penalties or make it an option. Corpse runs is a deal breaker for a lot of people. Death penalties are just fun killers. Just make it an optional mode.
I think death penalty is unnecessary. You already have a penalty of having to run all the way back and then possibly fight respawned monsters again.

Penalty could be nice, but only if you have them as options so anyone could play on there own terms. Like me I would love if there was a hardcore mode added down the line.
Options all the way. I've had too many experiences in various games of glitched-out corpse caches (outside boundaries, under world, up in air, randomly destroyed or otherwise inaccessible).
I will never be against giving the player the option to tailor their experience. I won't use death penalties personally, but I think the idea of an option is great.
I like this idea more than having item durability personally and I'm glad at least for the demo that it doesn't have it, it being item durability, as that would impact everybody and defeat the purpose of the game to begin with.

I like the idea of things like XP penalties and item durability as an option, but I don't think they should be forced on us. Part of the draw of a game like this is that we should be able to tailor it to some degree to be the MMO we want. So if one player wants XP penalties and PvP SimPlayers but no item durability and another player wants the exact opposite, both players should be able to get what they want. Eventually, anyway. It's totally fine that none of this is in the original game. I love it and will still buy it next week.

I would sooner see the option for Mythic+ style buffs/debuffs that are engaged when starting a select game mode that would be the equivalent to XP penalties and include further penalties for every death as an alternative to perma death, like having a debuff for like a missing arm that only lets you use 1 weapon from then on. (Kenshi inspired)
