Right now though, any decent AI solution would cost money (for you, the user) and all of them can get a bit off the rails with enough prompting.
If the perfect AI solution comes out one day I'll give it serious thought as an optional add on for users, but for me it's more important to build a solid, reliable base game first.

An alternative at least could be a Llama implementation given the language model advancements, relatively lightweight for computing and could be included in a final subscription model to give more interactivity with your NPC's both in form of better text response and the ability to give more commands etc. With F2P per-say being deferred to the previous method.
Something to at least look into as the Llama AI language model could assist in running some lightweight on-user scripts via prompting their actions, and could then with a simple sub system add for a whole range of new and dynamic features that would otherwise require a lot more coding to achieve
This would provide the "MMORPG subscription" that people are used to with giving it a unique touch.
