these damn synty unity assets again
So many devs using these exact same synty studio assets in their games, it's so ugly bro. Stolen Realm, Soulstone Survivors, The Bloodline to name a few big ones.

These games all have the same spell effects, models, art, it's so boring. It makes the game look cheap af, like no textures or art, low polygon models with sharp edges. Gives serious asset flip vibes.

I'd much prefer bad graphics and low res textures over these cringe overused assets the devs picked up from some random humble bundle.

These assets allow solo devs to be able to make games on their own that normally would take a studio of multiple programmers and designers to make.

Many people play games for the gameplay not the graphics. I still play Nethack and thats using ASCII graphics. As long as the gameplay is good graphics don't matter for many gamers. Especially the gamers this game caters too.

I will admit that there are many games out there that uses the synty assets that suck or are just scams. I understand the scepticism. I can assure you this game is really something special. Watch a few videos on youtube and see if this game is for you.
You clearly don't know how hard it is to make even "bad assets" for a full game. I'd rather have a game with store assets than no game at all.

The assets we are talking about are at least to me a little like a set of Lego's, everyone may have the same set but I am sure the diversity and quality of these constructions will vary greatly based on the builders creativity and passion for their project. I think this Dev really loves their lego's, just my opinion. :steamhappy:

3D assets, even crappy ones, take a lot of time and effort. For an indie team, especially a one-man show like this project, it becomes an almost impossible hurdle to overcome. If dude was making all the 3D assets this game wouldn't be out right now but in another five years from now. That's assuming the guy can even do 3D art. My guess is he's a programmer.

Honestly you just come off as whiny. Don't like it? Don't play it. Easy. Stop crying.
I grew up with a Atari 2600, I think the asset packs used are nice, but I am a polygonaholic.
I like them :104:
While we'd all prefer not to see the same asset packs, this is a solo dev and his game is in early access. I've put in several hours in and I can tell you this is something quite special. I'd recommend setting aside your asset hate and actually playing the game, if you can.

+1 for ASCII.

That's why Path of Achra was my favorite game last year.
I can always tell when it's unity bc the fans on my graphics card run full power the entire time. I hate unity.
Does not bother me. I highly doubt we would have this super neat game without assets.

the asset pack fits the oldschool MMORPG vibe... real oldschool MMOS look way worse ^^ him using assets also mean that he can add content faster... cause for an expansion the work would multiply tenfold if he would make the assets on his own...

I'm so happy at all these responses.

Not a fan of Unity or games using the same assets but props to any solo dev undertaking such a big project. I understand the necessity of it.

I dunno, plenty of solo devs make their own assets bro some people like to put effort into their work so maybe it’s a skill issue. But idc about assets anyway, it’s the cheap and nasty synty studio ones specifically all these devs use. Instant red flag for me the dev probs uses chatgpt to code the game too lmao. Nah skipped.
