introduction quests should be as long as necessary to teach you how the game functions, you just have to pay attention, a lost concept these days, I know, I'm guilty of it myself. It's actually not a very long quest if you actually focus on completing it. You can definitely be done within an hour provided you recruit a balanced group. In all honesty, the faster you complete it the more likely you are to end up missing out on some dropped recipes for awhile (assuming they dont also drop off of other enemies. I know I ended up with like 4-5 different recipes from repeat clearing the dungeon when I could've just done it once and been gone if I wasn't farming drops.
I am from the starting days of Everquest. No maps, no marker above NPC's heads telling you they have a quest. You talked to them and had to actually type in questions to get a quest from them. No quest markers telling you where to go. You actually had to use that thing on your shoulders for more than just a hat rack. You had to figure it out for your self. That's what made it fun! I am not trying to be condescending, It was hard and we enjoyed it that way is all. Raid strategies where held closer to the breasts than nuclear secrets are. Getting into a good guild took months. You had to know someone in the guild and then be fully vetted. Couldn't have any spies getting in. We suffered no fools or dead weight. We were hardcore and got called elitists and we wore it like a badge of honor! I finally retired from EQ ranked in the top 150 Rangers in the entire game!
