Report a translation problem
To talk to an NPC, you just target him and press enter and type the secret keywords to "say" it to him.
Ok. I will try doing that with the NPCs. Any reason why you don't have a /say command? That would make more sense. I would never think to type random words in the chat box. Plus if you are coming from old MMORPG (like me) /say is common.

Coal isn't super rare but if the RNG decided not to play nice it can be a pain.
Until adjustments are made, it's totally safe to set up mining and just walk away for a bit.
I mean I know we're going for the EQ vibe but I've left enough corpses in front of npcs in EQ hitting the wrong key would like to not repeat the process here lol
