System Shock® 2 (Classic)

Audio logs don't play sound
I had the problem with no sound at all and fixed that by turning of hardware acceleration but i still have a problem with the audio logs. Just started and the guy in the trainstation talks and i can hear my footsteps but not the tutorial guy, when i click on the buttons on the wall to replay it just makes a brrr sound and does nothing. Any way to fix this? I have looked at the quick FAQ and other sound problem 'discussions' and this problem seems to be coming up regularly but is not addressed specifically.
Is there a way to fix this or do I have to wait for it to be patched? I don't want to go on in the game in case I miss some audio from the story etc.
Any help appreciated.

in the FAQ:

-if you have audio issues, go to the audio menu, and set the hw acceleration to off. also make sure the positional sound bias slider is right in the middle.

This hasn't fixed it, that, as far as I can tell, just fixes the no sound at all bug. What I and a few other people are having is a problem where there is sound, just no audiologs. Is there a way to fix this?

Okay, i had this problem too but it doesn't seem too hard to fix. http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4141.0 has the SS2 tool which can help. you have to carefully read the instructions on how to place it in the games folder otherwise it won't help. :) let me know if you need more help.

Thanks. Disabling Hardware Acceleration worked for me.

check whether your SND2.CRF (in SS2\data\res) has 117MB, if it does, check the FAQ for the steam guide, and move the game out of program files as instructed there.

SS2 is installed in D:\Steam\steamapps\common\SS2\Data\res, but SND2.crf has 120MB. I dunno I might just verify integrity of game cache or re-download. Perhaps I should have tried that first thing...

Apparently the SS2 tool doesn't work for the steam release:
"Hello STEAM users. This program is currently not compatible with your System Shock 2 installation. And you cannot use mods either (not reliably, anyway). Because the System Shock 2 installation sold by Steam is broken. If this changes in the future this notice will be updated."
I just read that and didn't bother any further

hw acceleration set to off, positional sound bias in the middle, and master volume and music not muted?

I thought I tried that... but thanks for the pic (I guess some people just suck at this), I read the positional sound bias slider as the one below it not the above it... Thanks for sticking with me for so long. I'll go check if it works...

Well that worked. Here's me thinking I was good at computers...
guess this game was before my time anyway...
