Co-Op Solution for Steam version of System Shock 2
Solution for Co-OP:

1) Go to this site:
http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4141.0

2) Download the so called "SS2 Tool"
The SS2 Tool is a small tool to allow modsand other user generated content.

3) After you downloaded that SS2 Tool double lcik on it to install it.
NOTE: You'll have to specify your Steam System Shock 2 directory. (The installer will ask for it)

4) After you've specified your Steam System Shock 2 Directory make sure that you select "Enable Multiplayer" in teh selection tree. It's OFF by default. If you can't see it you'll have to click on one of the small "+" signs to expand the tree.

5) Continue with the installation of the SS2 Tool and wait for it to finish. You'll probably hear a funny ringing sound once it's done.

6) Start your System Shock 2 game through Steam and tadaaa select multiplayer from the main menu.

Yes it does work, I tried it through Tunngle. It might be buggy, but hey: You don't sh*t a free horse down its neck on a Sunday. (Could be a Monday, but I'm not sure)

Oh so it doesn't rely on steam for mulitplayer?? I would have preffered a version twice or thrice as expensive with perfect steam integration.

Will wait for a sale on the GOG version instead.

If you want more Information on how it works, just go to that web page provided in the first post. It's one of thos System Shock 2 Communities that have a lot of fan made content for it.
Just give it a spin if youér up for some old fashioned gaming with some buddies.

This would work with the tool, but I tried it and it doesn't work unless you install the tool in the Steam Directory, but you can't use "PROGRAM FILES" so it won't let you install it there. I had to make a copy, move to the C root folder and put it there, Install it there, copy that folder back in and overwrite the SS2 in the steam directory, and still didn't work.

EDIT: Nevermind, just make sure to restart the game/steam, silly me didn't realize I had it running in the background.

I ran the SS2 Tool. Ponited it to my Steam System Shock directory with the Schock.exe and started the game through Steam. Selected Multiplayer and worked like a charm.
There might be some other options certain users might have to enbale when intsalling that SS2 tool. Like debug mode and things like that.
But, I'm not sure how much of a solution that would be. For me it works and that's why I posted my solution.
For all of those who have problems with that SS2 Tool; try to ask on that System Shock 2 Forum. Maybe they are able to provide the proper solution.
I think they developed it, so it would be my next guess/bet.

Yeah I'm for real, there is little or no need to get this now if it's not an update on the game and does not rely on steam for multiplayer.

Furthermore, the community seems overrun with stupid steam fanboys. Better things to do than deal with that.

Gotta problem with that mate?? Talk to your mom.

Doesn't participating on a steam forum inherently make you a steam fanboy?

Still, its quite impressive that you have the gall to believe a 14-15 year old game would seriously have a significant update applied to an already spotty feature.

Also, there may be little reason for you to get this game, but there is plenty of benefit to having this game readily available on the primary digital distribution service.

When I try playing with someone else the game either:
a) Crashes as soon as you move
b) Freezes
c) Gets stuck on synchronize for one of the parties until the other leaves
d) You get clones of yourself in the game when you load it and the other person doesn't see you move anymore.
Anyone know a fix/patch/workaround for this?

You don`t need the mod anymore, the game updated overnight for me and now it seems like it is pre modded , verified the files and co op is in the menu without the mod!
bleakraven May 11, 2013 @ 11:24am
Indeed, and it seems like it works properly in MP now too. Just make sure to save very often. Specially before and after level loads.

In that case we should be lucky for a thing like Steam :)

I'm having the same problems as bleakraven..Mostly it works for me, but the person joining it goes to a black screen and crashes or freezes. we also had the syychronize problem before that..just after the intro scene
