Mac OS X Users - Readme if having launching troubles.
System Shock 2 uses the Wine 1.6 Mac Driver by default. This works fine for a lot of people, others not so much. Here's how to disable it and use X11 instead.

Browse the Contents of the System Shock 2.app located in your Steam folder (Users/<You>/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/SS2/) and right-click on it. Click "Show Contents" and run Wineskin.app. In the Screen Options, you should see a checkbox that says 'Use Mac Driver instead of X11'. Uncheck that box and that should fix the problem.

Enjoy the game!

I installed the Mono Wine whatever thing it asked me to upon this new update and now my Save Data is all gone.

Thankfully, it wasn't much progress but regardless, I'm wondering if there's a solution.

I'm unable to launch SS2 after upgrading to 2.46 (worked before). The icon appears in my dock for about a minute, and then disappears. The 'Use Mac Driver instead of X11' box was already unchecked. I also tried running a file integrity check.

System Shock version 2.46

MacOS 10.12.6
2014 Retina MBP

I removed the game, deleted the Steam SS2 folder, and reinstalled. Then when I launched SS2 again, I got a Wine Mono Installer dialog box saying:

Wine could not find a Mono package which is needed for .NET applications to work correctly. Wine can automatically download and install it for you. Note: It is recommended to use your distributions's packages instead. See ... for details.

I went ahead and installed Mono. Then I got a similar dialog box, but this time for Gecko. I installed that as well. The game launches fine now.

It seems that SS2 comes configured to use X11 by default now. This was causing video problems for me, and I had to go in and tick the box to use the Wine Mac driver.

Does this fix also apply to random crashes mid-game?

Still unable to launch the game. The SS2 folder has no "Show Contents" options and I can't seem to find the Wineskin.app

I'm still unable to play. It crashes with both X11 or the Mac Drive selection.

Same deal. The game has refused to launch for over a year now and I’ve yet to find a solution.

Hi Guys, same issue here. I downloaded and installed Wine 2.0 (2.0) on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 without changing anything in Steam. I have to launch the game by selecting the game icon in Finder and selecting OPEN...it's working fine, no problems so far...hope it works for you guys too!

Hi,

I just bought a macbook pro 16" and I can only use Mac OS catalina on this Hardware. So I can't play to the game...

The question is : Do you intend to release a "Catalina-compatible" update ?

Thanks

I can't seem to uncheck Mac Driver. I can check and uncheck:
Auto Detect GPU Info for Direct3D
and
Use Direct4D Boost (if available)

What do I do?

Same problem here. I can't check "X11".

It seems that the game is now catalina compatible, but it doesn't launch at all.

I ran the wineskin advanced and that's what is written :
"sh: /Users/voultou/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/SS2/System Shock 2.app/Contents/Frameworks/wswine.bundle/bin/wine: Bad CPU type in executable"
