SS2 not launching anymore

Last night when I tried to play some SS2 it wouldn't launch. I've been playing for a few days and now suddenly it's not working. Help?

Try clearing your download cache :

(top bar of steam Settings - downloads clear download cache)
then try verifying SS2

Quite common really - I sometimes have to do it myself I don't know why it works

my working theory is that something in downloads cloggs up the computer and it needs cleaning every so often - I have no idea if that is actually what is happening though
