Melee weapon
I have an Energy rapier and an Annelid Crystal, what is the best melee weapon of the two ? Knowing this would allow me to avoid spending points in exotic to try the annelid crystal for nothing if it isn't particularily powerfull, since I am saving up to put in guns and be able to use the assault rifle ^^.

The Crystal Shard is the strongest melee weapon in the game.

The Energy Rapier is crap. For that matter, energy weapons in general aren't worth investing in.

Well, I found the energy pistol on overcharged mode particularily effective against maintenances mecha (the big ass yellow mecha). As for the energy rapier, I've read up here and there and it is less effective against Annelids, while more effective against machines, but since machines blow up when killed, I don't melee them :/.

I'll go with the crystal shard then.

Edit : On another note, I just found pool cues in a recreationnal area on level 4, and am extremely disapointed to be unable to use them as melee weapons ^^

lol I JUST came on to ask the very same thiing. it takes a LOT of exp to be able to use that light sabre so I figured that was the best but mybe not eh

The energy weapons seem to be so expensive in exp to be able to use I wonder if they are worth it at all

Crystal Shard all the way.
Though when fighting mechs I like saving ammo by using the energy rapier.

Together with the perk for melee damage and adrinaline boost from psyonics, the Psi-Amp melee weapon (also a timed ability) is actually much stronger than the crystal shard.

Psionics has the best support for a melee approach. There is an ability that gives you a fire aura damaging nearby enemies, a damage reduction shield, artifical agility and strength and even a wall to temporarely block enemies in.

As for energy weapons: They get you a good boost against mechanic enemies towards the end of the game, but fall falt in the final stages. The endless ammo is a big plus though.

The real problem is actually that on default balance (no mods), the standard weapon class outshines about everything. It has an answer to all kinds of enemies with reasonable ammounts of ammo for it.

Crystal is better since you'll most often be meleeing worms, and energy weapons stink at that.

On the other hand, I did not regret maxing out my energy skills. Sure, when you start seeing enemies that resist energy weapons more and more (shakes his fist at the spiders), it's not as useful, but it was still good to have.

The energy pistol, with its "free" ammo was super useful for popping eggs that I'd already searched from a distance, or for dealing with minor threats (protocol droids, normal hybrids, cameras, etc). It allowed me to fight at range a lot of the time (and thus preserve HP) and preserve most of my ammo for the final levels. I had enough that I was full-auto-firing the assault rifle near the end and still had a bunch.

And the EMP rifle? GOD I loved that thing. Oh, you're a turret that shoots deadly rockets? BAMBAMBAM, done. Oh, a giant robot? BAMBAMBAM done. Oh, one of those assassin things that massacres me most of the time in about 2 seconds? BAMBAMBAM done, and I killed the one right behind it too. Oh, is that a recharge station? BAM, full ammo again.

Sure this left me with no points for PSI powers, but screw that noise. I have to manage PSI points, not drink any booze, carry around a weapon sized amp, put points into individual skills when I'm not sure which ones I'll need, AND have to deal with a weird UI for selecting powers? Nah, I'll stick with Bullets and energy pulses, thanks. (and this is coming from someone who usually plays Mage type charactes in RPGs). Maybe in my second playthrough. XD
