System Shock® 2 (Classic)

System Shock® 2 (Classic)

Is the soundtrack good?
I've played SS2 before but I took advice to turn the music off. Was it a good idea?

Yes, it's superb. And no, it wasn't a good idea. The first track may seem a bit out of place, but the other tracks aren't. Also, the music plays only on certain places.

First off, when you're in the game, yes, turn it off. In order to get the absolute best of the atmosphere, the music has to be turned off to allow the atmospheric noises and effects take over.

However, the soundtrack itself isn't bad at all. It's actually very suitable. The soundtrack is cyberpunk and atmospheric, as the game itself is. It's worth listening to (which is made easy by the included MP3 files), but it's best to turn it off in game in order to be more immersed.
What kind of stupidity is this? Playing SS2 with music disabled? HAH!

the music is awesome. you should definitely keep it on, though you might want to reduce the music volume - I usually go for half the level of the general audio.

Get headphones and you will hear everything even with the music. Both music and headphones will increase your tension, can't even play the game without headphones.

The music is great. The game has one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.

For anyone with the same question, 8 years later: the outlier track is called MedSci 1. Go check it out. It's a banger. It increases your heart rate and matches the atmosphere. Check it out.

Every time you listen to Ops 2 from the soundtrack, you levitate by 1.616255(18)×10−35 m. The levitation is imperceptible, but this is absolute fact and it is indeed there.

Lowering the music volume to about 10% is recommended, or even turning it off. The music isn't bad per se, however it has a negative impact on immersion.

Personally loved the music. System Shock 2 wouldn't be nearly as memorable without it.

Tis' VERY different vs what I'd expected, but again, to me that was part of the charm.

it's good ambiance in the gm, but not something I'd go out of my way to listen to

The music is VERY 90s and that's GREAT!

Is the music great as in musical perspective? No, not really. But does it compliment the game and it's atmosphere? Absolutely yes. The Soundtrack is a huge part of SS2.
