SS2Tool vs NewDark?
So i installed SS2 again. While looking around mods, i noticed NewDark again. I know it's the fan made new Dark Engine for those games, but i'm not sure i ever installed and played it.

Or did i? Is it automatically installed already in the "vanilla" version that comes with Steam? Or does SS2Tool install it?
Or neither and i have to install it separately?

Anyone know?
Also, if it's included in the install, why is it available for download separately? :D

Currently, the Steam version does ship with NewDark. However, it is NOT a current version of the engine. SS2Tool updates it to the newest version. However, if you do that, you cannot have Steam update the game again. If it does, it will overwrite the engine wth the older version and, breaks your saves.

Nice! Just the answer i was looking for!
Cause there were some mods that say they require NewDark but i didn't know if they ship it with SS2Tool etc. Good to know that SS2Tool updates it to the latest too, means those mods that require a specific version will work. :)

not quite correct - the GOG/steam build of SS2 uses the latest NewDark out of the box, and the same version is installed by SS2tool as well. the tool however applies more fixes to the game itself (think game system, object, resource tweaks and similar), and makes the game mod/fan mission ready.

as always, SS2 GOG/steam build is ready to go if you don't care about mods, if you do, the tool is pretty much mandatory.

Nice! So basically i don't have to worry about NewDark at all and all mods will work.
I do plan to mod it, so SS2Tool is always a must.

yeah, that's the idea, GOG/steam good to go if mods are of no interest, if they are, the tool will take care of everything.

trust me, you don't want to be setting up a SS2 install manually.

I believe i did set up a SS2 install manually a few times though haha, way back, but yeah, it's nice to have it all done automatically.

Now i just have to download the mods, throw some ReShade to kill my graphics card, and play some SS2! :)
