Avan if polito tells you to, doesn't mean you have to. In other games there's mechanics that you can ignore what some NPC tells you and do it differently and then something different happens. Not here, but still. OP doesn't know that.
So, feel free to destroy all of them, you can't use the cameras yourself, they're just environmental hazards.
As for the cameras, the entire Medical level is essentially a tutorial, so it would be pretty @ssho!e design for them to tell you to do something that it later turned out you shouldn't have.
Anyway, thread answered, moving on!
Have fun OP!
Farming!
No, seriously. The enemy types are set for the decks, so in Med/Sci for instance you'll always only get swarmed by Pipe Hybrids. AKA, easy nanites you can get even only using a melee weapon.
It's much easier then trying to run around, waiting for random spawns, if also riskier.
Haven't tried it on the other decks personally, but I always leave one intact, out of the way camera in Med/Sci for the above reasons.
But good tip for those daring enough to risk it!
