System shock 2 or vampire the masquerade.
Should i buy ss2 or vtmb? I'm mainly looking for good rog gameplay with a good sense of character progression.

Umm, both... They're both epic!

Vampire the Masquerade. It aged way better than SS2 did.

Debateable but i tend to agree. Unless you mod the hell out of SS2, then SS2 aged pretty well and looks way better than VTMB does.

I mean, i love both games, but if you only had to pick one, it would be a hard decision.

But you don't have to pick just one so i say, get both lol. :steamhappy:

I'd say Vampire, personally.

SS2 is a great game, and I'd recommend it after you're done with Bloodlines, but Bloodlines is just flatly the superior game. (Doubly so with the fan patches in the mix.)

To be fair that's like comparing a titan's might to that of an Olympian god, but still. Both are excellent, unique games with a lot of stuff going for them... but gun to my head, I'd pick Bloodlines as the most 'must play' of the two.

Some of the stuff in Bloodlines is just CRAZY good even today, like the face animations. Not to mention the bunkers numbers of clans & powers they let you pick between.

SS2 is only $2.50 on GOG right now, so I'm assuming price isn't the constraint. If you're concerned you won't have time for both, don't be. SS2 is quite short. I imagine a typical first-time player could get through the entire game in a weekend.

Bloodlines, on the other hand, is a pretty long game. It's definitely a time commitment to finish.

So get both, but play SS2 first.

System Shock 2 is known as the mother of the Bioshock games and is a known inspiration to many other games with a similar system in mind in my opinion it sure is a worth shot getting SS2 instead and you know what they say old is gold.

Both but if you have to pick shock 2 no question.

Bloodlines is great but even with patches its still really buggy and has an arguably worse end game than shock 2.

System Shock 2 is less janky - Vampire even with the fan patch can be very janky.

They are really two different types of games - Vampire being closer to Deus Ex than System Shock.

Both are great games though and worth playing - and I'd recommend modding both (Vampire with the latest Unofficial Patch, and Shock 2 with a number of mods to polish up the graphics).

"Janky" all by itself is a meaningless nonsense word. Be more descriptive.

The games buggy and the character controller/gunplay feels a bit off or jank.

Vampire

I *hate* vampires and i endorse VtM Bloodlines. It makes all the other games suck.
