Energy melee only.
That's like... a fraction of a fraction playstyle, though TECHNICALLY you can make the game unwinnable by building a character that way, and showing up to end-game with only that one weapon.
If there's more ways then that, then I'm drawing a blank right now.
I actually just tested this. If you hit the right spot while facing to right of the Brain, you can damage it with the Laser sword. Alternatively, you can bait Rumblers into hitting it.
Personally I would just bring a laser pistol and save myself the trouble.
And whoever told you Shodan is immune to the laser sword lied to you. Melee-only build guides explicitly tell you to bring a rapier or psi-sword because you can't damage her with a wrench or a shard.
-not getting research 1 (spending all cyber modules on something else) on hydro despite explicitly told to, AND throwing the research assistant implant into the steamy pit.
-not getting hack, spending all available cyber modules on other skills, and wasting all the ice-picks before getting to the command shuttle bay area where you need to hack a replicator.
so yeah, doable if you try really, really hard. technically, I could fix the first two by blocking off the steamy pit, but come on.
I shall strive with all my might to avoid such unfortunate misfortunes.
You don't need to buy research 1 though, and i never do anymore, but then you need to use the implant to research the canisters.
So it's really hard to mess up, but yeah, doable.
Save your ICE picks, get research 1 or use the implant, and get at least one ranged weapon modified to 2 (of course with skill points to use it). lots of ammo til the end of the game and you'll be fine.
How do you kill the head with melee though?
Did a quick peak over at TVTropes due to being tired but finding the question interesting, and guess that info was just plain wrong.
My bad.
I like the assault rifle. It kills stuff very nicely.
Here ya go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVB23OzKGzQ
Yeah, its quite awesome.. Molecular duplication is very nice. You can just replenish anything you want. I like electron cascade as well as you can recharge the laser pistiol, your implants and the power armor which I basically use in every run.
I'll have to try melee only sometime.
Oh yeah, the electron cascade, energy weapons combo is my default go to when i want a relaxing playthrough haha. The other convenience of it is that you can recycle all the ammo you get since you don't need it and buy TONS of hypos with the money hahaha.
I didnt even know about that uholy voodoo recycling magic device up until now. I heard where you can get it though. In the vending machine opposite that coded door (with the fat, obese robot) on deck 4 I think.
I still used the laser pistol even when the plan was to go for the assault rifle. Combined with shotgun you can deal good dmg and preserve your nanies and rifle ammo. Only later, when I can finally use the assault rifle. Mid or end of deck 5 usually. At that point ill still use laser pistol and shotgun for weaker targets but when there are cyber assassin bullies or turrets or multiple enemies, then I switch to assault rifle on auto. At that point youll have a ton of ammo and like 3 k nanites.
Nanites/ammo/hypos etc always lasted to the end. Sometims I had a full clip of like 70 bullets left in the end or even over 150 bullets and also many psi hypos and endurance hypos. And thats without the recycler. I will use the recycler in the next run though. Wont run back through all the decks but ill recycle whatever I find after I find the recycler. Should net me at lest another couple hundred of nanites which should translate to at least 1 or 2 more full clips of ammo. Prolly even more and that would be more than enough.
I like the combo of laser pistol, shotgun and assault rifle. Allows you to conserve ammo but also gives you very good firepower when needed.
And depending on the build, it's either extremely useful or "meh"...
I just finished a run with standard-3/heavy-6 weapons and that recycler was just in the way, i had nothing to recycle i needed all the ammo i can find. But even then i had way too much of it, half of the granades i didn't use, i had tons of prisms to spare at the end, and even bullets and shells (although i did use up a lot of armor piercing bullets and anti personell shells).
By the end i could just choose one of 5 ways i could kill shodan hahahah, but in that case a recycler wasn't super useful.
When i do energy weapons i do mix energy/psi, and then bullets, shells, granades, prisms, all of that is useless to me and ready for recycling when i get to deck 4 and get the recycler.
Try that build. Energy weapons 6, maintenance 6 (for energy capacity and easy weapon maintenance), electron cascade, cryokinesis for crap targets and those resistant to energy like spiders, pyrokinesis is better if you want. Then slap on a few buffs from PSI and you're golden! Just don't get crappy psi powers like anti entropic field (you don't need it, you have maintenance 6), remote electron tampering or remote pattern detection (minimap ability).
You don't need any PSI ability above tier 3.
You'll be swimming in cash!
