And yet I'm finding out that apparently it's still better than a lot of people in those forums.
People acting as if 3d-scanned models with good PBR materials and RTX are something brand new, like they have been living deep into a cave or something.
At least it's a really cool case-study of how a well implemented camera filter and good movement can turn something from "good graphics" level to "OMGITSREALFOOTAGE" level.
Prepare for a flood of indie games with bad camera filters now, as they try to cash in by copying this.
The camera filter, movement, and animations are exactly what makes it look fake. The way the camera and gun move independently, the way every single animation looks unique, the weapon/head sway having no discernable pattern. I've never seen this before in a game in my life.
And then the "gameplay" in the trailer looking extremely scripted.
When you combine it all with photorealistic graphics it just makes it seem even more fake.
Some people are claiming that the trailer is fake because they believe it to be actual real-world footage filmed and with some filters on top of it. That's absurd for me, it's clearly 3D rendered.
Other people are claiming that it's fake in the sense that the video is not gameplay, just a pre-rendered animation. That's always a possibility with any trailer, especially one so early, yeah.
I think it's probably just heavily scripted gameplay. And, if this ever evolves into an actual game, I fully expect it to be a heavily scripted game more akin to an adventure game than an action game.
You only say "looks fake" because you already know it's a game. If you had watched it on TV or as a random video on the web, would you notice that?
Well put. I was skeptical of this being real at all at first, but have since learned more about UE. I knew about photogrammetry but have never seen it executed on this level. And as I said, the animations and camera movement really throw me off.
I still am extremely skeptical that this will be anything more than a glorified tech demo, but we will see.
That's exactly my point bro. Games don't look like this. Ever.
There was a time when people thought ps3 games were photorealistic.
Really goes to show how "photorealism" ages like milk.
I throw money at games first and ask questions later. I paid $120 for Ready or Not EA 3 years ago. I have less than ONE HOUR in that game. It's unplayable to me. I'm still happy for the success of the game. It feels good to have contributed to something so successful and cool looking. I just don't play SP games and moved on.
I want Unrecorded to be real and I will empty my wallet as soon as a playable build goes public.
There is just no evidence that this will play the way it looks, or that it will look this way when it plays.
