Game crahes every time I try to play, restarting my whole computer
HI there,

as the titile says, Star Trucker keeps shutting down my whole computer every time after a few minutes of play.

At first, I had the fear of an overheating issue. So I installed CPUID HWMonitor. All temperatures are at normal levels, not even close to overheating.

Secondly I tried to google solutions and found two youtube videos. But both don't really handle the exact issue I'm having.

I don't get a black screen or a blue screen. No crash message, no sound, nothing. All of a sudden my whole computer restarts, simular to an overheating issue.

I have all the actual drivers installed. I'm running on Windows 10 and I can play any other game without any issues.

I read that using the data verification on Steam will help, so I did that. All of a sudden I was able to play the game two days ago for roughly an 1,5 hours or maybe 2h. Since then, the game keeps crashing after 2-3 minutes of play every time I try to play it.

It's VERY FRUSTRATING. Does anyone have any ideas or can I upload some data or files informations that'll help?

Greeting from Germany by the way.

This might be the issue....
Do you have 2 sticks plugged in? Controller and HOTAS? If so unplug the controller, or disable your HOTAS joystick in it's UI. But you say you have had it load.... maybe you unplugged one or the other when this happened and you didn't realize it.

Actually this couldn't be the issue if it shuts down during play... it wouldn't let you even start the game. Might be a power supply issue. One of the early GTA games used to restart my PC long ago. Turned out to be the PSU. The age of the PSU, and the game drawing more power than any game I had run before.... caused it to spontaneous restart.

Check your voltages if you have a UI for it. If those are dropping below the limit when playing... that's the issue.

One reply at least. I don't use HOTAS, but I have a XBox Controller plugged in which I don't use. I play the game via keyboard + mouse.

Monitoring HWMonitor is also monotoring the voltages. I'll check and'll post the numbers.

So, I am back after another crash. I double and tripple checked the heating and voltage numbers during play. Nowhere next to critical levels and the game simply crashes without any warning and restarts my computer.

VERY FRUSTRING. Money's gone, game's paid, but I can't play. Hopefully there'll be a fix soon.

Somethings gong on to cause the reboot. Check the Windows 'event viewer' logs for any clues. It might show an error right before reboot.

The monitoring software might not show a down spike in voltage. If it has the capacity to record the spike... you might see it that way, when viewing the log. Otherwise you almost have to measure it independently of the PC. From what I've seen of monitoring software if the voltages are stable, little to no fluctuation, it's probably a good PSU. But if wild fluctuations within the operating limits are seen... the PSU could be on the fritz. All it would take is a small spike to cause a reboot.

Replacing a PSU is the cheapest solution for testing. You don't even need to remove the old and install the new one to test, just put the working PSU close enough the cables can reach everything, unhook the old and hook up the new. Run the game and see what happens. From past experience as the PSU dies.... the reboot happens with less stress on the PC until just trying to boot up is too much for the PSU.

But it could be something completely different. Someone with more experience might have a clue.

A reboot generally indicates an underlying issue with your machine. So the game may be tripping over that issue, but the game isn't causing the issue.

As above check the windows event logs.

Thanks fpr the replies. I could use a lil' help here with the event logs. Never used that tool before. Where do I have to look inside that event viewer?
