I wonder if this is a type of mission, so I can avoid that ASAP ?
You can see when a mission is a JIT, it's very good practice to make sure you read the missions before accepting them, and to make sure you are okay with whatever they ask you to do.
You can get around JITs by planning longer routes, the late fee on an hour or two is not terrible, so a lot of the time you can also just jump out of the system and back in. The penalty for 2 hours late is like 200cr anyway.
Another thing you can do is just ditch the load on the destination system, and go do something else, including another mission. If you are in emerald junction with an early cargo, for instance, you have enough time to do a delivery to medusa, and then come back to complete the mission.
Saving before you grab any job, in the eventuality that you might pick something that you later regret, is also a very good practice.
The game tells you several times that the point of JITs is that you need to be conscious of the window of time provided. Keep this in mind, and pay attention to the contracts you are accepting next time.
I though I have to deliver before the time run out, not after the time run out. Make more sense now.
There aren't enough systems/routes to simply "go a different way" like I see people suggest in other threads. You're going to be really late taking the 2nd fastest route in my experience. Though as Ottomic posted above, 200cr fine isn't too bad. I copped a hefty fine for abandoning the trailer and failing the mission one time, so I prefer to just deliver within the window.
You'll generally be a little bit quicker (probably because of ship upgrades) than the estimated time too.
I won't take any that have me waiting 30+ mins, unless it's a job from Planeto, Everycrop or someone for the achievements. The best way to kill time is to use the scanner upgrade and collect all the space junk around the system. Usually takes me ~5 mins for each one and don't have to rush around.
Negligible. Like, 200 credits for a couple hours late.
But for game it is not good.
Yeah lol. My dad was a truck driver and plenty of times we had to wait 1-3 hours before we could offload at some places. Good time to do a little maintenance, but mostly kicked stones around.
After that you can pass the time scavenging and adding extra cash in your bank.
