Got stopped for a mandatory weight check. While they did that, I figured I'd spend time efficiently and hopped out in my suit to refuel the truck... Instantly hit with a -1500 fine for littering. Those dirty bastards. Don't trust Harmony Station security, folks. They're crooks

Dude, I just got weighed and didn't hop out of the truck and got the littering fine at Atlas Prime. I have no idea when or where I littered... I did stop and scavenge and maybe I left something behind but I don't think so... If anyone figures out how the hell you incur the $1,500 fine... please let us know. (Xbox)

I'm not sure, but maybe if you sell stuff before getting checked triggers that.
It's probably a bug and you should get another fine, not for littering but for selling before getting checked.

Does anyone know what the game actually considers "littering"?

I haven't had that happen to me yet but I'd like to avoid it

Had my second check last night. No littering or fine. I even dropped a box on accident while I was doing some EVA salvage work. It 100% floated away into space.

I've seen at least one glitch where I had to fully shut down the game. I did reload after occurring the littering fine at Atlas prime, but still incurred the fine. I'm thinking maybe I should have shut the game down, restarted, and tried again.

This time I got another voice line.
He noticed that I sold some items before the check.
The fine still got declared as "littering"
Pretty sure that you shouldn't be able to sell before.
With reloading the game you might be able to cheese it though.

Yeah, he just said to me "Ditching items after a scan request isn't a good look, buddy." I sold items off after a weigh request and got fined for "Littering" $750. Needs to be reworded.

Edit: I reloaded the game to see what would happen if I didn't sell stuff off before weighing in. It wants you to surrender your items, and you can't leave until you do! Also, it doesn't seem to recognize my weight limit upgrade at the weigh station. I paid for the additional 220 lbs, which puts my trucks weight limit at 661 lbs. My trucks load is currently 1,148/661 lbs. (I found 3 salvage in 2 sectors!) But, the "Surrender Items - Summary" at the weight station says my Legal Weight Limit is 441 lbs.
