Well by steam forum standards there's a lot of "I'm refunding because my ship doesn't float right" or "because the truck looks too much like a truck" kinda thing, so don't use that as your metric :D

On X-box controller myself and that works great, but it does sound like the devs have put key rebinds on top of the to-do list if you don't like the current setup.

They aren't bad, it's just better with a controller. You try playing any driving game with a keyboard and you're going to spend the whole time tapping away at keys. It's a smoother ride with a controller, but it wouldn't stop me from playing it I didn't have one.
its not the normal control you have like in other games but you learn it fast when you just keep trying :harveyastonished:

not bad, just lack of keybinding atm which soon will get even better

I want to have a button for the flight assist and one for regular just brake thrusting to 0 movement, not reverse.
I don't like that reverse sometimes just doesn't do anything too. I can press it up to 4 times before the truck starts to reverse. Sometimes, I just spam the key just to preemptively get it to work.
I have found the current key layout to make perfect sense to me, but I do agree some additional keybinds would be nice, like drive assist, emergency stop (only had to use it once tho), cruse control settings and maybe for the hitch.

Other then that, if you have played just about any other space sim (or even maybe plane sim), the controls on KB are not bad at all.

Playing with a KB here, it's much better than any other driving game I ever tried.

They are not bad. This isn't a fast paced game.
I looked at your profile and see you have Shipbreaker.
I have it as well.
To me, the controls feel very similar to that game.

if your good with controller thats fine, myself its kb/mouse, truck has a boating feel to it but i eventually steer and fly with no prob now. Just takes time to get use to what the controls do. I get to where i can use the thruster combinations without even thinking about them, almost feeling where i need to go. At first i thought it wouldnt work without the need for vertical thrusters but the other controls eventually took over that role.

I started playing the game with m/kb. Switched to a controller for a few moments... Went back to m/kb. The analog controls are nice with the controller for F/R and general driving, but the limitation of using it for controlling the dashboard switches, and how docking works make the m/kb the better option IMO.

You can get basically full Newtonian physics by turning off the Driver Assist when driving. How the devs have placed the thrusters on the rig and how they operate when used is reasonably done. Though in this game turning off DA is more difficult due to the lack of lateral or straffing thrusters.

If you hold the reverse thrust (kb) the rig will come to a complete stop, regardless if you keep holding it. It should only go into reverse if you let off and press again. That's how I've found it to work. But a few times, like you, it seemed I had to press reverse a few times to get it to kick in.

For me, keyboard/mouse is slightly better than controller.

The basic problem is that some controls are just NOT mapped at all. So you have to point at them either with the mouse or the controller and "click" them. This is probably the biggest problem with the controls.

Since I find pointing easier with the mouse, I just use keyboard/mouse.
maybe its strange a little at first , but then you can get very precise and efficient even with keyboard. Backing up and parking became 3 second endeavor every single time.
It's 4 keys you have to press on keyboard. 1. Roll left 2. Roll right 3. Throttle 4. Brakes. Controls are perfectly fine on keyboard. Everything else is done from inside the cockpit in first person view.

15 hours in and I can say that I hated the key-binds when I first started but I've gotten used to them from daily play. I'm sure if I stepped away or played this at a later date, I'd complain if I couldn't swap some keys around.

My biggest gripe is that you don't have mouse-steering, especially in 3rd person.

If you're used to standard controls on pretty much any game, they're fine.
