do you ever get to just drive the truck for a while?
its odd, its a similar situation with that game pacific drive which also recently game out. i feel like both of these games have misled basically everyone who bought them into thinking they were getting a game about driving a vehicle only to end up constantly managing resources to drive the vehicle for a very short distance and then have to manage resources again
both these games have nearly everything they need to easily have made segments of the gameplay focused on just actually just driving the vehicles for a somewhat extended period of time and maybe face some kind of basic challenges here and there, and this segment would be the fun hand eye coordination based reward gameplay for all the anxiety inducing resource management. but no, there is no such gameplay, just endless resource management from what im seeing everywhere and from what ive experienced

that was my experience on the demo. seemed like all i did was swap batteries, hunt for batteries, etc. after seeing this game had finally launched, i came here specifically learn whether or not that was still the case. because it isnt very engaging gameplay imo.

Personaly i started a new game with low consumption for the air filter and battery and the game is far more enjoyable.

If you didn't get what either pacific drive or this game were about you didn't bother to read the game description kol
Switch power cell consumption and part degradation to low
Job payout to high
Do a few long haul jobs
That's it you have 30K $ in your account, you can rest easy

After I found a station in Medusa that had 3 air filters for sale I am at peak calm

You want to have a challenge, but on "normal" difficulty it should be "NORMAL" and not overly difficult. I also agree with the creator. "Star Trucker" – what does the name suggest? Exactly, it should be about the life of a trucker. Driving (in this case, flying through space) should be the main focus. But it's not.

shouldnt have to read a game description to learn that its not what the trailers make it look like, and theres nothing there that would indicate that the game doesnt revolve around actually driving the truck for more than a minute or two at a time

i dont want it to be too easy. im just gonna wait till they iron out the kinks so i dont end up restarting possibly multiple times trying to find a good balance in settings

Specifically with this game there is such a strange disconnect between the story (hey lucky come to spark town, have a drink. Nice star trucker live. We live the freedom) and the gameplay (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I'm dying, omg energy cells dead, I can't find air filters, ♥♥♥♥, ♥♥♥♥, ♥♥♥♥, need to get money fast, no time to rest!). Also the trailers capitalize on the first aspect and not a single bit on the second one. So... I can't blame people on feeling misled.

You know you can start the game as a 'driver.'? Also there are custom options where you can adjust everything: battery usage, shop prices, starting money, fuel prices, and consumption, etc.

And once again: The fundamental principle of the game has been misinterpreted from the very beginning. A setting to make it "easier" should not bring the core principle of the game closer to the goal.

There's tons of things you can do to alleviate that stress. Don't run systems that you don't need... Shut off your cab lights. I've been running without grav drive while piloting... Shutting down oxygen while EVA.

Oh and drive carefully... Driving slower than the limit keep the truck running and the cargo pristine.

I think part of the problem is the recommended setting is basically hard mode. It could use some tuning.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused that people are having this happen. The only thing I can think is they're playing on the more extreme/hardcore settings and still don't know the game. I'm not constantly needing to swap batteries and I'm managing my power/cell qualities without ever feeling rushed to cover them.

Honestly the game plays like cargo hauling in Elite. You grab your cargo, jump X amount of systems then sit in super cruise for 20 minutes and finally drop off cargo. The only difference is Super Cruise is replaced with 5-10 minutes of flying in a space lane depending on the size of the hub.
I have not gotten to every area yet. The only place I've unlocked is the mineral colonies so I cant speak for the entire game yet, but I do think if they made some of the hubs larger OR added jump points between major hubs to act as a sort of "Managed danger zone" that you cant warp though so you have to fly down a road that is kept clear by worker ships or something.

You have to keep in mind that it is space so its going to be empty
