If this is not the case, then batteries will be a huge issue with the game indeed.
Indeed, you can upgrade your truck at the shop for better power efficiency by individual system. It's a generous boost too.
I visit every shop in each system I visit, and almost always load up on all the batteries they have (as well as anything being sold under value to sell for profit later) and sell old empty batteries (even one with under 10% sells for one 5th the value of a full charged battery, that's generous) and so far it has not been a problem. 2.5 hours in and only had to change oxygen once, core power cells once, and gravity twice. That is over the course of 6 or 7 hauls. As it is, that is not bad, and after a few upgrades it will be even better battery life and thus even less of an issue.
I'd say if it feels unbalanced, pick an easier difficulty?? I'm at Recommended.
