Deplation rate for PowerCells is oppresive.
I love the concept of the game, and I love the Space Truckers esq style you've put in to it. I didn't find the controls at all difficult to pick up and remember. My biggest gripe with the game is the power cells. Don't get me wrong the game mechanic of having to do maintenance on the truck, patching hull breaches etc is AMAZING. I love it. However the depletion rate on the power cells and the ability to source more do not correlate to each other in my opinion.

I started a new game, on the recommended setting. I got given 2 or 3 power cells and 1 air filter to begin with. However by the time I got to the mission to meet Red Eddie so he can tell me to go to the paintshop at 80,000 miles my power cells were all but depleted. To be clear, I was running at max power conserve - suite charger off unless I needed it, internal lights off, all external except primary headlights off and maglocks off unless I'm towing something / docking.

I went to the nearest station and to my shock I can only buy 1 power cell type at a time. One of any item at a time actually. When every system is on sub 20% that's a problem. So I decided to go salvaging. Found 1 power cell, a fuel can, and a air filter from that.

At the moment i'm not doing a lot of the "trucking" because i'm darting from station to station or from scav site to scav site trying to keep my systems powered in a never ending vicious circle of doom. I would like to see to be some mechanic that allows us to recharge the power cells at the cost of fuel over time. Maybe with diminishing returns after each charge EG so that eventually you do need to source a new one.

1st Charge - 100% return
2nd Charge - 85% return
3rd Charge - 70% return

So on and so on until eventually the powercell can no longer be charged and you're forced to either find a new one or buy a replacement.

You can customize power drain but, frankly, "low" drain is too low and "medium" is too high for me.
I really hope the devs address this issue quickly because it is a bit of a game killer.

Ahh yes you have fallen into the death spiral!
(you maaaay be better off restarting unless you like the challenge)

When the game starts, you're actually in a bit of a deficit. Air filters are expensive but function optimally when you have 4, so your first two will wear down faster than normal.

You also start with a few batteries already close to dying, so your first priority is to earn some money and buy more of these cells- ideally the cheaper "100" ones. You should be doing this as soon as the tutorial ends- get to it quick. Check the shops you pass by.

Shops can have more than one- there's just different kinds of shops. I just bought 4 cheap ones (they were on sale too!) and they still had some of the bigger ones too.

And on top of that, the early jobs will only juuuust pay you enough to be able to afford fuel and cells and brake even. Just. Assuming you don't have any accidents.

The good news though- once you unlock the first few cargos, it becomes easier. Just in time and fragile cargo pays a bit more, enough to start building up some reserves.

I've made it to level 5ish, and have a box of 6 cells to spare, all filters full and one to spare, and a box of 3 spare electronics. The cells don't discharge too fast IMO, they're just a bit expensive.

There's just no pleasing some people.

They literally let you customize it and you're not happy with either option? I can't believe they forgot to make a specific option just for you and your incredibly specific tastes.

Settings on low works for me.

The game needs a recharge station, its so obvious that the first thing you search in game, and not a gas station, so much potential in this, even like some solar panels upgrades, thats why this game feels like an mobile game

I might have missed that they drain slower. That’s good to know. I saw there are batteries of a higher capacity but they’re priced disproportionate to capacity alone. If they drain slower they might be worth while, otherwise a 100% markup for 50% life extra doesn’t math :D
Zedd 4. sep. 2024 kl. 2.25
The higher capacity ones are disproportionally more expensive, because they need fancier tech to cram all that power into the same size battery. You're paying extra for the convenience of less work.
The demo had much faster discharge than 1.0 on recommended, by the way.
In my humble opinion, once you've built up a comfortable reserve of parts, I find the discharge rate about spot on. I'm just still a bit concerned about the steep cost of things- there doesn't seem much leeway for accidents at the start.

I only played the demo, so I can only gather how this works in the final release from videos/comments, but here's an idea:

  • Have batteries recharge when docked.
  • Have batteries lose max charge as they get damaged.
  • Have batteries slowly lose durability through constant use.

Make them behave like...you know...like in real life.

As a side note, the worst thing about the demo was the lack of strafing controls. Real sad to hear that it's the same in the final game.

I use the good batteries for Oxygen Generator and Air Generator since they use a lot of power. The cheap ones are for everything else. The left hand panel in the cab drains quicker than the ones on the right. So when the ones on the left get to half battery I swap them out for the ones on the right so, they drain equally.

You can look at the stores for market values of goods too, so buy cheap somewhere and sale at a higher price somewhere else! It won't make an amazing amount of money but its more than nothing.

It's a bit tough to manage, but I would think that space trucking is a lot to do about surviving and thinking smart about your cargo to make enough to get by when you first start out. I can understand the complaints, I'm spending a lot of time trying to keep the truck alive myself, but I feel space is completely hostile. It would seem natural that life support would likely often take priority than delivering at times, otherwise you could just be one of those land people, and we all know they suck.
Andrei [FR-EN] 4. sep. 2024 kl. 4.01
Yes, two hours in, I have stopped playing, too.

This is a very stressing Battery ands resource management game with small bits of trucking in between. The battery discharge rate is too high, the replacement battery prices is too high, the battery availability to purchase is too low, the jobs pay is too low, but the infractions and damage costs is way too high.

You need to be very careful, but going slowly depletes the batteries, thus costing you more than you make from a delivery job.

And on the opposite side of the spectrum, if you go fast, cut corners or don't abide by the law, you get close to nothing (or nothing) for delivering the job, but you still need to constantly repair the truck and buy new batteries. Which are not widely available, nor cheap.

I don't know, I feel its very punishing to truck stuff around... in this trucking game.

The vibe and art is fantastic, I love it. I just dislike the gameplay, sadly :(

__

Also, on the controller, half the buttons don't do anything, so let me bind the honk, and most importantly, let me some control on translation, not only rotation. The visibility outside the truck is very low, don't, manoeuvering sideways (left righ, up or down) is a pain. Rotating and advancing inch by inch is not practical in most scenarios. We need translation movement.

Also, in the docking screen, there are quite a few numbers shown on the screen : all kind of rotational and offset values on all axis, but the most important one is missing : the relative speed. I don't care about yaw offset in degrees, I can see that with my own eyes : but I do need to see how fast I'm backing in, lads.

Yeah. The deplation rate is a little annoying. I hope it will get better ^^ would be a shame for the 4 Hours Savegame :(

I found the 'recommended' mode far too micro-managey. Driver mode is much more in line with what I expected to get out of the game. It's not like the mode selection is Easy/Medium/Hard (with the exception of Hardcore, of course), just different levels on the sliders. Fuel and express jumps are more expensive and job pays are cheaper in Driver, for example, compared to recommended, but the tradeoff is that everything takes ~4x as long to deplete.

Love your channel, big fan.

I agree. Since making this post I’ve had to restart my game and go hell for leather on finding energy cells to make sure I can do some deliveries and get my cash reserves up.

can we have sliders instead of high/low
