The difficulty is fine (for some)
I just wanted to air a thought that I'm not seeing echoed much so the devs can see some differing opinions. Does anyone else think 'recommended' difficulty is just fine? As long as you stick to the roads or pay attention and drive slow through debris fields, it isn't difficult to keep the hull from being destroyed and you just replace power cells every few runs. I see many people complaining that a 'pebble' will take the ship out, well if you get out and fly up to the rock in your spacesuit that 'pebble' is as big as your torso. I'd be taken out of the immersion if I rammed that at 150mph and it harmlessly bounced off. Of course I'm glad there are lots of difficulty options and the ability to run a custom game and change all these rates and settings, but I see a whole lot of people asking for this difficulty to lower- and I disagree. The 'recommended' difficulty isn't hard if you play the game with care and want more of a survival sim experience, it makes the game a lot more immersive IMO. It can be tedious early on for sure, but the tedium lets up after some time (and honestly adds to the immersion for me).

Obviously the difficulty may be balanced here and there over time, but I just hope the devs keep the light bit of difficulty there for those who want it- I don't want to slog through hardcore, but I feel like the wear rates and difficulty are perfect to force you to play well on Recommended difficulty.

Ami allowed to tell my opinion? you simply not the audience the game was designed for and thats the reason why you havent bought the game and tried it by yourself and eventually refund it if its still not yours....
the game is totally fine as it is. i´m playing on hardcore right now and its extremely fun and addicting. To say its not a trucking game is like you would say forza is not a racing game at all.....

You just go trhough endless loading screens? try to play on a pc and not on a microwave kid, since even the game save load only takes up to ~5sec for me, not mentoining a gatejump (which seems to be the loading screen) takes maybe 3 seconds for me?

2d plane in scpace? its a fu ck ing TRUCK not a plane so yes it makes more sence then everything you wrote or copied from some idiots reviews.....

You dont like the story at all? Harold didnt like the story at all? I tell ya all ppl i know which are playing the game for over 50+ hours already, liked the story very much and all said its a very nice fresh idea compared to other simulations where you just drive from A to B around 20 times a day......

People think that unless you´ve bought the game you shouldn't be allowed to comment
In your case YES, it would be better sometimes .....

You know what? You're absolutely right. I was still kind of on the fence because the game does look so gorgeous, but being insulted by you just now made me realise how foolish I've been. Good job :)

Yes now you was, and before you said your are even deleteing it from your wishlist... all you wrote above is readable. Every single childish sentence... if that wasnt sarcasm or a funny joke, then no one will miss your buy.... you know what? i even consider to buy the dlc just to spend them a few bucks they are missing because of your loss....

I totally like the trucking vibe in space, but i also know it was designed as a survival game but i am way to chill as a person so i like the fact in can lower the difficulty from recommended to driver. i'm sorry i am not the perfect customer and i do alter the game to my slow and lazy lifestyle

That's why they have the option to lower those settings. So people can play without worrying about the survival aspect. The issue is you have to restart to do it.

I started playing on "recommended" and it's all fine to me, personally. By playing the game in a more immersive way, i like to use the marked roads and do careful manoeuvres when docking/hitching and such, so i didn't get much accident so far. The autosave per sector is nice to have if you completely screw up, so it won't be a too big set back. You quickly figure which mission to pick or pack the right amount of supplies before venturing further away, or trade goods for a profit whenever you can afford it. Really, i'm having fun so far. I'm only half-way into the story line but i manage to slowly improve my rig. The difficulty feels just right to me.

I have been playing regular for 40 hrs basically, I had 0 upgrades for about 38 hrs and made about 120k. Keep in mind a good chunk of that time was me learning to play the game and not smash into things and become consistent. (Saved scummed a bit if I got in a major accident or fine ect.)

I spent 50k yesterday on upgrades tinkering and holy smokes the hull reinforcement one is actually so nice, I tested it by plowing through tiny debris going 85mph and my hull barely moved and didn't even make the oh crap I made accident noise lol. If I would play again from the start I would absolutely prioritise this upgrade for sure. (I just straight up maxed it out) shock ones great too for going to spark city.

I then spent a couple hours doing barrows final mission while trading collecting low and selling high in a few areas and came out with another 60k and am about 130k again, its a rough game to start but it kind of takes money to make money and to trade along routes while your trucking.

Game starts rough but once you stabilise your economy and stop the bleeding you kinda can really get on a roll. My a ha moment was hey, I can buy these extra air filters in a zone that was super on sale up to -5000 and just stocked up on a few (had some extra money not much)... did missions while keeping an eye out where to sell them high and got out of debt and just.... did it again... and again... and again. Don't fear the debt embrace it and make it work for you.

Games got a learning curve for sure but once you understand trading and become not scared of debt and stop getting traffic tickets and not get into accidents every zone(save scummed to learn the ropes) then its really not that bad guys.

yes i like the idea of being able to re-adjust the game while in game, instead of creating multiple new starts over and over until i get it the way i want to play it. I also started on custom and thought....i had it adjusted right but ended up maxing the encounters with asteroids :steammocking: thinking i was going to get to salvage at the start but that didnt work out. So now ive been trying to play the game in a meteor shower for 8 levels. For me its been a long 8 levels.

A few tips
1) Never jump through gates with no load, always try to get a load that needs to get dropped off where you actually want to go.
2) rotate partially dead batteries through the CORE systems of the truck and deplete them entirely. Also turn off all lights and put climate control on minimum
3) have a spare salvage box, when you find salvage beacons and ALWAYS salvage these beacon
4) Unlock the additional levels for cargo job types as soon as you can, the additional money you earn helps alot
5) Unlock the eva upgrade and one of the cabin weight upgrades as soon as you can
6) the multi trailer unlock does NOT do what you think it does, allow you to haul for two different jobs at the same time (its honestly stupid this doesn't do that for a mid tier upgrade.)
7) related to 6, multi trailer jobs pay nearly the same as single trailer jobs, and multi trailer jobs have this weird glitch where the trailers can randomly unhitch themselves (this just seems broken)
8) Air Filters "die" slower the more of them you have equipped at the same time, so only keeping one equipped and just swapping them out as they die isn't as good as equipping two or three.
9) In regards to multi battery systems and air filters, it does benefit you to let one of the units run down a bit before installing a new one, that way you always have ONE at 100%, the other at about 50%, or in the case of air filters, 100,75,50%. You benefit from the efficiency of the wear and tear, but they don't all go out at the same time requiring you to swap 2 or 3 units at once, which can be expensive.
10) SAVE OFTEN, generally when at Job boards or Shops. Being docked connects you to the station power and makes a good save spot/log off spot. So when you come back you can take all the time you want planning your next move without using resources.

So far I have spent 62 minutes and watched videos on how to dock and I can't even get past docking to enjoy the game.
Dwarf80 11 sep, 2024 @ 13:18
one thing about this game, it does take practice. Spend a few days or more just learning and go slow about it. Takes awhile to get the hang of docking, just trying to rem what ea control does eventually to the point to where you dont have to look at your controls to fig which direction to turn or which way is up or down. When using the auto docking feature it will align you up when you activate the docking lock.

I usually stop close enough, then spin around and use the rear-view camera (first screen on the left monitor) to align with the gate or cargo. I just do very light taps first to make sure i turn to the right direction (since controls will be inverted and my brain doesn't always remember that..), then light taps to reverse and adjust with the green circle while keeping a close eye on the distance number. If i mess up my approach with an angle way off, i just move away forward then try again.

If that helps, don't hesitate to rotate your truck to match your target's alignment. That often makes it easier to use directions afterwards. It does for me anyway.

And also, it deosn't matter if you're upside down. The docking/Hitching sequence will automatically adjust you to the gate or the cargo to you.

The funny thing with echo chambers.

The game has currently 74% of positive reviews.
Ironically, 60% of players stopped playing before reaching 100miles, and 70% stopped before reaching rank5.

As for people who played long enough to enable new sectors... only 20%...

Rule of thumb, if 1 people complain, 5 stay silent.

You'll notice on the forum, there are way more people complaining about the game balance than people saying they are ok with it.

Numbers tell the rest of the story.

This is Steam, the forums are always full of people complaining about new releases, are you new here? People who are happy rarely come to the forums to shower praises on the devs while you'll get people complaining that recommended difficulty is too hard but they refuse to change to custom difficulty because reasons.

60% of people didn't finish the tutorial? Cool, that's actually pretty normal for games, look at Skyrim's tutorial rate finish rate and that game has like a 94% rating... This is a $20 title, people are going to buy it just to have it, especially the hardcore trucker community, they'll buy it and wait for peripheral support to be added.

70% stopped before reaching rank 5? Clearly you don't know the game at all, rank 5 is a long ways off, I'm not even there yet and I'm about 15 hours in. The idea that 30% of the playerbase has already reached rank 5, now that just tells me they're absolutely loving the game and basically playing it all the time.

Also, 74% even though it doesn't have custom keybinding or stick support? It's a space game without stick support, of course people are going to be mad about that. Then add to it that almost every YTer explains it as "Trucking in space" even though it's not really similar to ATS/ETS at all. People are complaining about bad advertising when the devs haven't advertised it at all, it's been word of mouth and a lot of people are just lying.

This game is more similar to a strategy game based on resource management then a trucking game in space.

Also complaining about jump gates in a space game would be like complaining about highways existing in a trucking game. Do you complain about all the warping that needs to be done in NMS or ED? Cause you gotta warp constantly in those games as well.

after 15 hours still not at lvl5? i´m really but really sorry and hope that doesnt sound harsh cause it is NOT meant to be harsh, but wtf actually do you do while playing or how is this possible? i´m on hardcore, struggling to "stay alive" but still after 4h and 32 minutes i´m at lvl8.... i just cant imagine how :D

my poor Recommended run has 28.5 hrs, everything upgraded and unlocked, $30k in cash. I'm just soft locked from Enigma and Dusty's later missions so can't do anything else with it atm.

It's fine, people are just impatient and whiney.

5hours into my Hardcore run, level 9, just cashed in and have $15k to spend on upgrades
Konsaki 11 sep, 2024 @ 16:08
Once you know how the game works, Recommended is a balanced difficulty.

The problem is, it's the RECOMMENDED difficulty for new players and the tutorials don't train new players in all the mechanical knowledge needed to stay alive and continue the game.
- Lights drain batteries
- Air filters are separate from Air System batteries
- UCCs are a thing and you need to turn off the breaker or risk blowing everything
- Trading is a great way to make money
- Maintenance Bay shops always have batteries, UCCs, air filters and shock pods
- What the hell 'contraband' is before you get pinged by sector security checkpoints

If they reworked their Tutorial mission to be completely scripted to show these things, Recommended would be the true 'normal' difficulty.
