Weight check when carrying no cargo?
I'm not very far in the game (3 hrs), but at least three times, I've had a random weight check request on radio when I don't have any cargo. That seems... wrong?

They check the weight of the cabin, not the cargo. Every item you hold in the cabin will add to the cabin weight. You have skills to raise the weight limit, but when you just start the cabin weight must not exceed above 200kg

Cabin weight includes the batteries, UCC, and air filters in the cabin inside your devices. I once tried to strip my cabin of everything once, but I was left with 8 kg for some reason. Can't be the pilot. The average American is about 80 kg.

Weight checks, and Just in time loads need to make more sense.
I can understand if I have an oversized, heavy, or multi-trailer for a weight check, but it happens out of nowhere, and usually at the worst time, making me turn around to answer the call or I will be late on delivery after the fact.

I hope this will be worked on in the future as something useful and not just a feature thrown in with no real purpose at this stage.

To repeat, weight checks are your CABIN, not your trailer.

He is talking about in the game...BUT... In real life they check all trailer loads not just "oversized, heavy, or multi-trailer" loads... THANKS!

Thank you Captain Obvious, this is why I said it needs to make more sense.
Weight stations are usually for trailer weight, I don't think I have ever seen just a cab sitting at a weight station in real life.

Dontforget there are 4 airfilters that can be deployed in the walls. If you stripped anything but left those 4 airfilters deployed, thats your 8kg. The filters weigh 4kg per filter.

It also includes the fuel cap on the outside of your truck.

This fact completely ruined my explanation for why there is a weight check at all in space. I tried to give some logic to it, but when I found out it's just your cab.... LOL.... that logic left the building. Now it seriously makes no sense other than a arbitrary mechanic to punish the player.

Its more a counter to min/max item trading IMO. Once you have the scanner and start salvaging with teh sanner, i once ended up with close to 700kg worth of stuff/loot in my cabin just from salvaging 1 sector to the fullest (7+ salvage spots in that one sector motherlode)

Now i could just min/max checking what item type sells best at what sector, but than you have the risk on random weight check and having to either eat the penalty for littering when dumping/selling the stuff before weighing or give all the stuff away for free until you underweight.

So i usualy just go to a non weighstation sector to sell everything or use the shop in the current sector to sell everything.

So in a way i get it as a mechanic to control the economy abit and slowing the player down even if its only marginal.
