What is the point?
As I'm typing this, All I Do Is Drive by Johnny Cash, is playing on my Pandora. But 91 minutes in so far all im seeing is that you can pick up a job, go pickup cargo, fly to jump gate, fly to drop off point, deliver cargo, fix whatever just broke, go to job board, pick another job, fly to cargo, pick it up, fly to jump point, etc etc. Is this Demo just a proof of concept? There doesnt seem to be any challenge or goal here beyond delivering loads that are all essentially the same. What is the point of this game? I play Hardspace Shipbreaker and that game is cutting up the same ships over and over but there is a goal and slight variances that make for the odd challenge. I play Snowrunner where you are also just bringing cargo from one place to another but there is ::Crap:: in the way presenting a challenge. this is just open space, unless you count the AI drivers that can not see you as a challenge.

this is a demo... so its a small part of the game.. and yeah even if that turns out to be the case.. there is a huge audience for it.. it's ok if the game is not for you, not every game can be for everybody :)

What is the point of ETS or ATS?

Well, that's a hauling game for you.
Go from A to B, do a little maintenance in between, and that's it.

That's the whole point of the genre.

Conceptually if you strip out all from a game, most games are like that.
1) kill anything you see on screen
2) go from A to B
3) get from A to B faster than others
4) survive to random things on screen for as long as possible.

The demo of course has not much as it is a demo; most likely it is not even a vertical slice but just a build made for posting it on Steam (which is great BTW, every developer that post a demo should get 10% more on their sales IMO, as they are being very honest in showing the actual product).

As far as what is the point: the relaxing environment and the fun of going from a place to another. But I agree with you that if you just do a ETS/ATS in space, it is boring as space is... Empty :) While driving somewhere show you different places and vistas, here you see nothing really, it is very realistic in a way but has no appeal. Beside driving the truck and fixing it, it would be great to have also something to look at, as you do in ETS/ATS or challenges of driving on small roads for example, which does not apply to space.

Ahits ETS again. Ok think i'd give it a miss. I really wanna ETS game where you actually have to do stuff. Like fight of bandits or well anything exciting. PLayed load sof Elite dangerous but they made it so their trade ships were crap so its nto fun. Was really hoping somebody made an interesting hauling game with cool fun gameplay for once. Oh well maybe somebody will get it right.

Star Citizen is working on the cargo (& economy) refactor now, by looking to add deep and immersive systems (full logistical chain etc). Might take a while though...

You should check Siberian Train simulator.
The demo is on steam.

There is also hard truck apocalypse, but good luck to make it run.

And finally, Wasteland crew should be released this year. But there is no direct driving in that one though.

So gameplay = killing and fighting in your mind?

Gotta broaden those horizons bruv.

Yeah, I don't know about bandits. I get that it can be a bit boring to not have a goal or something but honestly it's like saying a train sim should have random hijackers boarding trains to spice things up. I think most train simmers are just fine with the sim.

I guess we'll see what the devs make of this game soon enough...

Great title (especially the earlier seasons).

It's not hard anymore, Hard Truck Apocalypse has a very devoted community of fans who got access to the game's SDK, they managed to fix most of the game's problems, including modern OS and hardware compatibility, as well as broken scripts and random crashes, in so-called Community Patch, and Community Remaster even brings better textures and models. Oh, and there's tons of mods. You can download the Community Patch and Remaster[github.com] from Github, although you have to use Google Translate, as most info is unsurprisingly in Russian.

Nice, thank you, time to retry it then.
