What an incredible game. It's far more than just it's combat. The game is a very well written story. The dialogue writing is top notch. The music. The scenary. It's all so captivating. I felt like I was playing a book, far more so than a telltale game. My choices mattered. Everything didn't always work out. This isn't a story of a hero who triumphes. It is a story of a people who are struggling to survive and make the best of a world that seems to be falling apart around them. They have a simple goal, get to the kingdom. But what will happen along the way. Who will we meet, will I make the right choices. The game is an emotional rollercoaster with old school text dialogues versus voice actors saying everything. Often times it is just the photos of your characters talking again like ps1 days, and I was still engrossed. I just beat the second game on hard (which is super hard) but I did it on my first playthrough. It forced a lot of unwanted decisions on me because I failed often. It added to the drama and intrigue. It was incredible. I'm very excited to jump into the third game and complete the saga. What more secrets await.

I really recommend playing blind and not looking up spoilers for what decisions to make. It really adds to the fantasy. Think of this game as a fantasy opera and epic. Enjoy

This game pretty much has it all, great music, story, choices, game play and art style. It's short, but is well executed in the time frame that it takes to complete. Highly recommend.

Unfortunate that I have to downvote this, this could have been a really great indie game but it is ruined by an awful combat system

A frustratingly beautiful game that punishes you for loving it, The Banner Saga is a fantastic balance of turn-based strategy and resource management, and one of the few games I've played that can truly carry the "choices-matter" tag. The bleak, nigh-apocalyptic setting is perfectly matched by the brutal gameplay, with a vastly branching storyline that carries over into 2 other amazing sequels.

True, it can move a little slow at times, but the pace is constantly reinforced by the storyline, and once you realize that this game wants you to let your guard down, you'll cherish those slow moments that always preclude disaster.

There are few bad things I can say about this game, except that it's a commitment.

It's such a shame that the combat is so unbelievably counter-intuitive and frustrating that it almost kills any enjoyment of the wonderful art and story that's there. Easy feels like Hard. Normal feels like Very Hard.

Can't believe how long it took for me to give it a go, but damn is this game a classic.
If the game interests you at all, go for it as you won't regret it.

My absolute favorite game of all time. If you love good story, incredible art, and even more incredible music, it's all here. Fun, strategic gameplay (although once you figure out the easiest method, it does become a bit too easy). I find myself getting re-invested in characters each playthrough. Your choices definitely matter and that makes it so easy to get immersed into the world.

Funny enough, the first time I picked this up, I played for an hour and it didn't immediately grab me. The second time, I beat the whole thing in 2-3 days. Love this game so much. <3

Only a few hours in to the first game, but can recommend, especially if you enjoy tactical turn based combat and RPG elements! Cool story too.
