How do you defeat bellower? Possible spoilers...
The tooltip says that you can only use the arrow when chance to hit is 100%.

Now unless the rules have changed, that means my health needs to be higher than his armour.

So Alette's health is 9 and I bring the bellower's armour to 8 (took a few tries) but the ability is still greyed out. Unfortunately each turn he fully regenerates his armour so I have not been able to bring it any lower, is this a bug?

its not a bug, he regens every time he takes a turn, so you have to break his armor sufficiently and shoot the arrow inbetween his turns. the more enemy units left alive, the longer between his turns, but the harder it is to reach him.

what position is alette in your lineup? you may need to adjust it, i had rook take the shot and he was in my 5th slot. giving her an item to boost her strength as much as possible will help too

i noticed with rook taking the shot, his special ability, mark prey is unavailable.... does the same go for alette if you choose to give her the arrow?
I_ArCh0n_I 2014 年 1 月 18 日 下午 4:26
yes, although i never use her ability.

Alette takes her turn right after bellower, which might be what is screwing things up.

But what does his armour need to be at if my str/hp is at 9?
aerouge 2014 年 1 月 18 日 下午 4:36
If your STR is 9 his armour needs to be 8 I think ... do you keep in mind, that activating a skill costs willpower? Because that screwed me over during my first try ;-)

You need 100% chance for the arrow to hit (no deflection allowed). it takes Willpower to boot, so no Willpower = no chance (kill another Dredge and blow the horn).

Keep in mind, after you succed with the arrow, the battle will cruly reset, and you'll have to kill Belower again (although he won't regenerate any more). And tha'ts without the person who shot the arrow to boot.

If you read the Mendor's comments durring the battle, she gives tips constantly.

Should a "Spoiler" be added to this thread's header?

As long as your strength is equal to or greater then his armor you are gucchi if you have the will power to use the arrow just as if it was any other ability.

And yes a Spoiler tag should be added.
Star Paladin 2014 年 1 月 18 日 下午 5:01
Of course, also, anyone comming into this thread also knows it will be talking about "How exactly to kill Bellower", so they are sort'a warned a bit . Guess there is really no way to describe how without spoilers.

I don't think I'm able to kill him on my first playthrough. It's no issue for me to hit him with the arrow (I also used Alette), but the 2nd stage of the battle is all but impossible for me with my current choice of heroes. Bellower simply does far too much damage for me to be able to handle, and I don't have enough chance to take his strength down while dealing with/avoiding the other enemy units. I think I screwed up and spread out my level-ups across too many characters! It doesn't help I lost two chaarcters, one of which I had leveled up in a big way (Egil, nooo!).

I had one character left; almost dead; who would have died in one hit if Bellower had gotten to him, when I finally killed him. I found it super exciting and a nail-biting ending for me. But I was lucky to have a level of mostly 5s and 4s in characters.

I did have to restart the battle twice, but the third time I pretty much concentraced only on Bellower, since I knew the battle would just reset after that anyway.

I just switched it to easy in the end, I didn't want the frustration to ruin my positive feelings about the game.

Maybe I will leave it on normal on my 2nd playthrough
Aged Swine 2014 年 1 月 19 日 上午 3:56
Just finished it on hard, can't say it was too difficult. Took maybe 3 or 4 attempts.
My party for this battle:

Iver - lvl 4 - injured for 3 days
Alette - lvl 4 - injured for 2 days - 2+3 armor break, 3 exertion, 6 willpower
Nid - lvl 3 - all stats maxed + 3 armor break
Rook - lvl 5 - 12+3 strength
Oddleif - lvl 5 - 9+2 strength, 2 armor break, 3 exertion, 8 willpower
Eirik - lvl 4 - 6 willpower

Basically, I used Iver to push/block the front row of dredges, and sometimes Oddleif's sky strike to prevent them from reaching my archers. Breaking Bellower's armor enough for the Rook to hit is pretty easy with all these archers and a decent amount of willpower/exertion. The only problem is that he likes to push archers away by casting his stun ability at Iver. Eirik also helped a lot by constantly restoring archers' willpower (other than that, in both stages he just stood in a far corner and did nothing).

Also, the battle is much easier than it could have been, because the game kindly "revives" all of your fallen characters for the second stage (except the one with the silver arrow - Rook in my case). So, you don't really need to protect them in first stage - just make sure they live enough to get close to bellower and hit his armor. Don't waste time killing the other dredges, or you'll surely be overwhelmed. Just keep them busy with pushing/stopping abilities.

In second stage I managed to line up the front dredges so that they blocked the way to my archers for Bellower, although these archers were really close to him. So it turned out to be very convenient that he received an extra turn every time I hit him: this means that the other dredges never got to move or attack any of my archers since I started dealing with their leader. And Bellower had to spend time crawling around his own allies while I thrashed his armor. Then it only took 2 or 3 good shots to remove all of his strength. Archers are VERY good at this because of their passive skill (Puncture). I'm pretty shocked to read that so much people dumped Alette as "useless" early on. She was actually one of my most powerful heroes, only Rook had more kills!
aerouge 2014 年 1 月 19 日 上午 4:54
I used the opposit tactic. Weakend the Dredge to 1 Str, than took them down in a Tempest Strike by Gunnulf and used the Pillage Mode to Swarm the Bellower. Was pretty easy in both stages ;-) Only problem is, that the archer with Silver Arrow (Alette in my case) needs to kill the last Dredge so she will be at the end of pillage mode so the rest of the team can destroy the armor.

i have a good setup (4 and 5) and this is fight is a retarded difficulty spike in my playthrough. never even faced anything close to it.
Doesnt help the difficulty feels cheap, as the boss regenerate like crazy in the first, and gets free rounds in the second round.

Was pretty happy about this game, but this fight left a sour taste in my mouth. And i would be lying if i didnt admit it severly reduced my overall opnion on the game.

I tried quickly read the posts and didn't saw this mentioned, so sorry if it's redundancy but the 100% chance to hit means when you check the normal shoot it doesn't show any percentage, then you can use the special arrow.

The game is confusing about this because later an advice is given that boss armor needs be set at 0 which is totally wrong.

yea he is impossible to beat, got him down to 0 armor very easy, only 2 hits, but Bellower change the order, so when rook is gonna shot he have automaticly added 6 armor
you change the start order, put rook last so he can shoot his arrow when all ppl done thier smashing
again Bellower breaks his turn and make it so that the character who have the arrow, rook or his daughter comes after Bellowers turn, ALWAYS

game breaking bug

bellower will keep changing the order so that the one with the silver arrow can ONLY shoot AFTER Bellower have regen his armor, as there is no wait command in this game it is a game breaking bug
moosedeutsch 2014 年 1 月 31 日 下午 12:42
I couldnt physically beat him in my first play through. I had avoided combat the entire time so all my Heros were level 3 or 4.
However my second playthrough I did every combate possible and had like 7 level 5s and a couple other Heros who could have been if I had spent the renowed to level them up.
So my recomendation is if your really having problems just fight more.
