They're literally Class Changes that is either side-grade, up-grade or down-grade of each other. Lanavaille and Wandering Lanavaille are still different based on bonuses and that Wandering is more of an upgrade to the Original Lanavaille. Even if you merge the two Lanavaille, their inheritance and discipline aren't tied together. Just Stats and Skills.
So if you want to change their cosmetics, you have to change their class or style. Debra to my knowledge is based off her Questline, so you have to complete it in order to get her Unmasked variant. As for Class Change, you have to progress through the story. The funny thing about Lanavaille is that her best class is the worst looking one in terms of appearance.
1st. Increasing their trust to unlock character quest then finishing said quest. Doing so will change character model (for example Debra will remove her mask and hoods. This methods currently available for few legendary adventurers only for example Debra and Adam
2nd Buy class change scroll and then change class. Every class had different model. Keep in mind that each scroll are character specific.
3rd. Gacha a variant of said character. For example current Wandering Princess Lanavaille which is different unit then the regular legendary adventurer knight Lanavaille. After getting said unit you can keep them separate unit or merge it with your regular lanavaille (not the same with skill inherit or discipline). merging the unit will let you change to the new variant and regular version.
