Wizardry Variants Daphne

Wizardry Variants Daphne

Any recommendations for similar games?
Just started playing this month and I must say that this is one of the most unique mobile games I've played in a while. Are there any games of similar style of gameplay with a dark fantasy setting? I'm rather new to this genre of games.

There's a lot of interesting stuff here. You guys are awesome. It's really nice to be exploring a new genre I haven't tried before.

AFAIK They are called (First Person) Dungeon Crawlers back then. And there are a lot. If you want retro ones, here what I remember to be decent :

- Wizardry 1 to 8 (The progenitor of the genre)
- Ultima Underworld
- Legend of Grimwald
- Arx Fatalis (You can use Arx Libertaties, allows you to play the old game on a modern engine)
- Etrian Odyssey series
- Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
- (Shin) Megami Tensei (Especially 1 & 2) can be considered Dungeon Crawlers as well.

Some other names are DRPG's, Grid Based Dungeon Crawlers or just Gridders

Blobbers define party based rpgs where your group moves as one unit (a blob), whether it's free roam or grid based

Anyway, back to the original subject, need more games recommendations

Almost nobody used the term 'Blobber' until maybe 5-10 years ago. It's a retroactive genre renaming, like 'Boomer Shooter.'

I hate both of those rebrandings.

Edited to add: I think the reason for this re-naming was the absolute flood of terrible mobile games calling themselves 'dungeon crawlers' that weren't this style and the subsequent deluge of those games on Steam as well.

Some people started using the blob analogy back in 2005

And as that thread makes clear, it was a very uncommon and niche term back then used by a few guys on a forum as a silly joke. It didn't gain any kind of common usage until about 10 years ago.

These games have existed since 1981 and weren't called 'blobbers' for decades after their invention. It's a retroactive branding. That's fine, but it was never the standard term.

Solid indy dungeon crawler. Strong recommend. It doesn't leave a great first impression with its strange animations, but I stuck with it and this game really shines. I recall the story staying pretty interesting throughout to boot. Great take on character classes.

Neat game. Unforgiving. Think it was a one-man project IIRC.

This and its sequel dropped recently, a couple of ports of PSP games. They're on my to-do list that just keeps growing.
