Wizardry Variants Daphne

Wizardry Variants Daphne

Any recommendations for similar games?
Just started playing this month and I must say that this is one of the most unique mobile games I've played in a while. Are there any games of similar style of gameplay with a dark fantasy setting? I'm rather new to this genre of games.

The gameplay is a bit different, but they are dungeon crawlers made initially for mobile with a dark fantasy setting:

More similar in terms of gameplay and made for desktop, those are good too.

I've beaten Stranger of Sword City through the neutral route, and it's a very good dungeon crawler with multi-classing and permadeath of characters that aren't the main one, just get ready for the final dungeon as it is a damn grind to reach its end.

Undernauts is a spiritual sequel that seems to happen on the same multiverse as Stranger of Sword City. It's darker in atmosphere than SoSC... but as permadeath is removed, ironically it's more accessible.

Finally, it's not a dark fantasy, but in terms of gameplay it can throw you in despair:

Basically, I played it using an Excel-like spreadsheet to take notes. It's a dungeon crawler with 100 floors, and a lot to figure out.

Also, if you want it harder than it is at start, just set the battles on Active :)
Ok, it should be mentioned too:

In terms of gameplay, it's a dungeon crawler... roguelike deckbuilder, where each member of your team contributes with cards. The story doesn't seem dark at first. BUT THEN.

The Wizardry remake is the most obvious answer but also the Etrian Odyssey games which are heavily based on Wizardry, though they are a bit less "dark fantasy'.
The Dungeon Crawler tag will help you find some good ones, also r/DRPG is another good resource.

Undernauts looks really good so I might have to play this series. Of all the recommendations, this series looked the best and most similar. If there are any more like them let me know! Thanks~

I would say that what Etrian doesn't have of dark fantasy is condensed on the F.O.E enemies xD

For those that doesn't know, F.O.Es in Etrian are extremely strong enemies on each dungeon floor that pursue the party if they realize you are there. They are beatable, but usually NOT when you reach the floor the first time.

Labyrinth of Refrain and Labyrinth of Galleria are some more recommendations, but they get really dark in terms of story.

I played Labyrinth of Galleria and... while I played a good amount of it (stopped before beating the game), my problem is that the game reaches a point where in terms of dungeon, it declines, and then the decline becomes sharper - as I stopped on that point, maybe it gets better later, just be warned.

I also praise it in terms of storytelling, but it probably could be a shorter game :/

There is surprising amount of wizardry like drpgs on steam. Just few that I remeber.

Actual wizardry game:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/948640/Wizardry_Labyrinth_of_Lost_Souls/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1308700/Wizardry_The_Five_Ordeals/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2518960/Wizardry_Proving_Grounds_of_the_Mad_Overlord/

There are also classic wizardry 5-7, and more modern but still ancient wizardry 8.

Games by nisa/experience inc.
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/8007/NISA_Dungeon_Crawler_Bundle/
also demon gaze and undernauts goes here
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1732340/DEMON_GAZE_EXTRA/

Games by atlus, most notably class of heroes series and etrian odyssey
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/29538/Etrian_Odyssey_Origins_Collection/
https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/36599/Class_of_Heroes_12_Complete_Edition/

Elminage series
(this one is very good actually despite its low score, just pure wizardry)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/291960/Elminage_Gothic/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/618710/Elminage_ORIGINAL__Priestess_of_Darkness_and_The_Ring_of_the_Gods/

Bard tale series
https://store.steampowered.com/app/843260/The_Bards_Tale_Trilogy/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1091980/The_Bards_Tale_IV_Directors_Cut/

Just pick whatever. Etrian odyssey and exp. inc games are generally good starting point. Stranger of sword city is pretty common recommendation to try first.
