Just play in Japanese. If you want to listen to the voices you surely know the language.

I can't believe developers are still releasing titles without their native audio options. I assumed it was a relic of the past, so it would be disappointing if that was the case here.

You are delusional. Even japanese dont know their language good enought to read books.
I know most of the grammar (its qute primitive) and have a good vocab. But I sure dont remember 10k kanji. I maybe remember 500 at best. Most books for teenagers and young adults have hiragana above less common kanji.
Unlike normal language you cant learn alphabet and just read. You have to learn 2 alphabets and than thousands of almost the same primitive pictograms that are barely readable in small fonts.
