The game is quite fun, I easily spent 30-40 hours on both Aftershock and Afterlight together. They are quite close to their original counter-part from the 90's but with their own flair.
Now, there might be technical issues as just getting it to run properly on new systems. Since the devs haven't answered I would say beware that it might not work. :(

I have all 3 on disc (Aftermath, Aftershock and Afterlight) and they're all wonderful in my opinion. For this price you really can't go wrong with it. Yes they all have flaws, problems and annoying things even with the patches. You can argue it back and forth for all eternity.

I might buy this on Steam because it does not have Starforce anymore according to the developers. But if my memory serves me correct even the latest 1.7 (?) patch left some issues that could cause you to get stuck. From what I've gathered this is patched to that same version.

If this is nothing more than just a re-release because they got the publishing rights back I'm probably not going to rebuy this on Steam because I have it on disc.

If you don't own this game yet it's a good buy.

I didn't play this one, but loved Aftershock. So, if this one is an improvement, then yes, it worth it.

you know they sell all three on gamersgate right?

I played a lot of this game, found it quite good. A few bugs but nothing game-breaking and a ton of mods on the internet. If you like it, you might also consider Aftershock, the previous chapter in the series, especially with Okim's excellent ACM mod. At this price, I'd definetly recommend it.

Afterlight is easily the best one in the UFO:After- series. ALTAR really learnt a lot from the previous two entries and finally made their Simultaneous Action System (or "SAS", as they called it) to work right.

I spent probably over 50h in this back in the day.

Just don't try to compare it to XCOM:EU/EW. You'll just dissapoint yourself. Enjoy this 2007 title for what it is, and you'll have a good time.

Really? I kind of disliked the Afterlight title the most out of the series.
Granted I hated the "zombies" and the story to death in the first two games... but the story controlled soldier rooster and the weird territory control mechanic was not to my taste. Found the "vision modes" to be a dissapointment as well.

Personally I'm looking forward to Xenonauts to feed my X-com94 addiction ^^

I have Xenonauts and it's an awesome game.

Can definitely recommend it if you're looking for a 'old' XCOM vibe but want something
that runs on new systems and is still supported.

My personal preference of UFO:After -series is Math, Shock, Light. This is just me. And it is also because I played them in that order. The first one just grew on me after playing it more and more.

They are all very good games on their own. I really don't think you can compare them or should compare them (Okey maybe Shock and Light could be). They all have their ups and downs.

Offtopic: Gorlom and Vincent- THANK YOU for mentioning Xenonauts. <3

Bought them years ago when each first came out. Not a bad group of games. I had been playing Afterlight while awaiting for X-Com to release.

I played this on disk when it first came out, and have to say that it is a rock-solid squad-tactical game. Even unmodded it's fun and reasonably challenging. Of course, one can mod it heavily for difficulty and/or realism, expanding it's playability even further.

I will, however, point out one downside to the game. The end-game stages are rather weak. A couple badly-designed enemies and a lackluster leadup to the final mission, which itself wasn't much to write home about. Modders fixed the enemy (sort of) but I haven't played it in ages and I have no idea if anyone has attempted to do anything more with the late-game missions. But everything up to that point was really good. And it wasn't like the ending was Origional-ME3-Bad, per se. Just uninspired.

I enjoyed this game immensely, and played it through to conclusion several times. I felt it had a good dose of Jagged Alliance built in with the characters, and required a lot of careful play to win the campaign. It's pausable real-time in the tactical screens and strategic globe as well. The soundtrack is one of the few I did not deactive while playing. It's from 2007, and the budget was less than XCom EU. It also builds upon the lore from the previous two games, but only has a couple connections back to the previous games, but those are well implemented and a nice surprise. There are about three different endings, IIRC, but they're only subtly different, depending on how many alien races you exterminate before the end.

Bought this on release and even back then it was underwhelming to say the least and definitely the worst of the series. There's some nice ideas there but the execution of them is so poor they are either ineffectual or worse annoying. The difficulty is fine until you hit certain techs ay which point the difficulty level drops ridiciously, mechanised units with mini-guns just chew through sectoids for example so from that point Sectoid missions are just a chore and the same applies to the other enemies you encounter.

There's a lot better games out there at a similar price so I'd wait for a 75% sale on this.
