It's not broken. There are several options in the top right corner. The one you are probably looking for is "free". You can also use "soldier view" to see if you have a shot, and what's in the way if you don't. Next to it is a type of vision. you can chose weather you want to see infravision, psi vision (very powerful if you get a reticulan up to it), em vision for martians, etc.
