I do not know. Today I saw this game for the first time. But I can definitely say that Back4Blood which is 4 person coop is dead with 1K players online .

Yes the game is dead. Ubisoft cancelled all further development on it a few months back.

Releasing it on steam at such a massive discount is just a quick pure and simple cash-grab

100% right. I bought it at release on Ubisoft. They stopped development before the first year was up. Love the game, but sad it died so quickly.

Edit: This is just a cash grab right now. Steam gets 30% and so Ubi is only getting $7 on this sale. I expect matchmaking servers to be down in the next year or so.

It's a PvE game based on a wildly popular PvP format that only exists because of an event from the main R6 Siege game. It's incredibly niche already, so yea it's probably not going to be super popular. Enjoy it while you can.

Just try the free demo. It allows you to play the game for 2 hours. I was lvl 1 and got matchmade for 3 games with lvl 1-2 too, so it's k.
