Can you still get awesome gear from alchemy mistakes?

I'm wondering if I should spend some more time throwing some G's at alchemical mistakes on this version of the game. So far I've had over 900 attempts or so with nothing really significant or that useful compared to the gear I already have..

Has anyone playing the game on Steam had any luck at getting some great equipment from this??

If you use a lot of alchemy, you might find a good mistake. Most people make silver swords but I prefer weapons that use monster drops. Making a Long Sword or Corseca gives better results; just get enough monster ingredients first, and then save your game. Next, fuse the items until you get a good mistake. Then you can save again after receiving a good mistake.

Another way is making the elemental alchemy. Simply buy the max amount of any of the elemental materials (such as the Body of Flame) from a vendor after you can purchase them. Save your game. Then go ahead and make lots of fast transmutes. Load and repeat as much as needed. Money is a lot easier to get your hand on than monster drops, especially if you're trying to keep your turn count low.

Well, I don't know if they fixed it for the PC release since I never had that much luck with the trick. But in the PS3 version the trick only worked backwards. In order to get certain powerful weapons you will need to have them registered in his Alchemy. Meaning that if you don't have the Craft book that corresponds with the weapon you want, he won’t magically make it for you.

He would give you late-game weapons by mistake but from my experience he won't give Top-tier weapons by mistake. So unless you have all the craft books it’s just better to make what you want than try to get something by mistake.

I had one accident before for a weapon or armor which wasn't in my list and I was in Gen 3 then. I guess that it's just getting lucky, but if it would happen quite alot with the 360/PS3 version, perhaps people complained and Ghostlight lowered accidents down a bit, but not sure ofcourse.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, what works for me in one version of a game sometimes doesn't in another.

I will try for a bit longer and see if I have any better luck but I think that maybe the probabilities have been lowered, or I just have bad luck.. I should probably get more books as well and give what Capo_mex says a try, it takes me just a few minutes to go through 900 silver swords.

I got my lightning scythe trying to smelt silver boulion.

I was trying to make a Silver Spear and got a Mythril Bangle... not bad at all.

I was getting less accidents with silver swords though, I got more with elemental weapons like Fireseal sword

I've managed to get a few so-so things like Fireseal Sword, Sol Breaker, Thunder Bagh Nakh, Damascus Spear, Ice Breaker, Gekko, Hiryu, Dark Crystal, Earthseal Sword, Thunder Break, Gaia Claw, Executioner.. Nothing that really got my attention though.

i tried to make a silver bangle and ended up with a mythril sword, which was sweet cause it was near the start of first gen.
