Black screen launch issue using the K-LITE codec pack with DirectVobSub filter

Possible workaround if you do not have K-LITE:

Most users seem to have white/black screen issues by the game trying to output 1080p and their monitor not being able to do so, a workaround is below:

Try to pressing ALT+ENTER when you see the black or white screen, this will put the game into window mode, if it fixes your white screen or black screen issue, you can then change the Agarest.ini file located in the local files folder via steam for the game, Change Full Screen to 0 or change the resolution settings to match your maximum PRIMARY display settings output, instead of 1080p.

Details on how to edit your configuration settings file:

1. Go to your Steam Library
2. Right click Agarest > Properties
3. Local Files > Browse Local Files
4. Open the Agarest.ini file with notepad
5. Make changes noted above and SAVE the file

IF you have K-LITE and above doesn't work (it didn't for me) then you could try what worked for me:

I had the DirectVobSub filter enabled (vsfilter.dll), once I disabled it from my filter list via the codec tweak tool the issue is gone and I can launch the game.

Steps to fix:

1. Go to your K-Lite Codec Pack folder from your start menu
2. Launch the codec tweak tool
3. Click Directshow Filters
4. Look under ENABLED FILTERS > MISC. section
5. If DirectVobSub is listed, click the box and then click apply, this will DISABLE it.
6. Try launching the game.

If you have DirectVobSub Filter and don't have Klite, you can download just the codec tweak tool:

Launch it and follow steps 2-6.

I have Windows 7 x64, I didn't have a white screen but a black one - White screen may be a similiar issue (not being able to play starting video) but I'm not really sure, sorry all.

This worked for me! I just set it to be compatible with windows 7 and ran it from the steam link.

I had K-Lite with that, I disabled it as you said, but it still black screens for me...

i dont have K-lite, i boot the game and get a black screen, i hear some sounds and then a BGM wich i guess its the game[s menu
