If you can look past it's "H-scenes" then I would definitely check this one out.
As for other SRPGs... There are quite a few on consoles, such as the Suikoden series, Final Fantasy Tactics and so on to name a few.
It comes with two games, Growlanser 1 and 2. They have a pretty similar vibe to Agarest.
Only the first versions are. They removed the compatibility chip to save in costs and it's absent in most versions of the PS3.
Well, fair enough.
But, even though it isn't Japanese, I do think it's a must for SRPG fans
Tactics Ogre: LUCT is worth buying a PSP/Vita for. If you haven't tried the game, you are missing out on such an expansive, deep, intriguing, difficult yet rewarding experience with an amazing story and even better dialogue. Did I mention a branching storyline and the ability to rewind to play out different options? There's hundreds of hours of content here! You are welcome for changing your life with this single recommendation. :)
PS: The Last Remnant is a lost treasure for sure, even if light on the strategy. After 200 hours I can say TLR is a brilliant game, one of Square-Enix's best.
And I agree Trehek :( Stupid handheld consoles should never have been invented, they steal all the great genres and we're left with crappy shooters!
