Is there a way to turn the challenges off?

I enjoy rounds 1 through 10, but then I always die during the challenge stage. I'd like to just keep playing normal rounds if that's possible. I think they added the challenges in an update at some point because I watched a video of someone playing and there were no challenges. Is there any way that they can be optional?

Update: I finally beat one of the challenge levels! Woot. I guess maybe eventually I'll figure them out, but it's still frustrating to die after lvl 10 90% of the time.
