Although I'm a huge fan of AVGN, I'm not enjoying the direction that cinemassacre has gone in recently (Who does?). Obviously I have nothing personal against Mike but he just doesn't connect with me like James does and at the end of the day AVGN is winding down. Clearly james doesn't have his heart in the project (He has been doing it for years) and wants to move onto new pastures (which is fair enough and to be expected). Just like everything, it sucks when a fun enjoyable piece of continuous entertainment comes to a end, hence the hate.
Its not just AVGN, its the whole Cinemassacre website, what I love about james is his keen insight and extensive knowledge about retro gaming as well as classic cinema and kitch film making. Anyone who critisises James for having a heavily scripted and 'stock' attitude to AVGN needs to watch his funny, passionate and criitical analysis of the castlevania series. Anyone who questions his credibility should watch his review of Ed Wood's carear or his top 10 best twilightzone episodes. Personally I don't care if mike just ends up taking over the Cinemassacre website all together and James put his tallent to use in other creative projects.
None of this is true. He could rehash forever and people would like it. He'll always be a classic. The issue people is upset about is the fact that he slowed his video making to a crawl. As for NC; the show was stopped not from failing popularity, but due to Doug wanting to quit it himself. He was tired of doing NC. He wanted to quit it then go on to make Demo Reel. But Demo Reel bombed really hard because everyone wanted more NC, not Demo Reel. He later brought back NC due to this, but spliced Demo Reel into it, which was a bad move on his part. He made a big mess where NC+Demo Reel both had 2 different versions. The new version of NC is basically a splice of the first version with the first version of Demo Reel. It's a mess, and people are quitting NC as a result. Personally, I consider the Scooby Doo episode to be the last one. The newer ones are spliced with Demo Reel 1.0 and are too sketch filled.
