Cannot start the game
The game has just updated to the Halloween event, and now I can't launch it.

I double-click on the game, Steam shows that launching popup for a brief instant, then keeps showing "running" for five or ten seconds, and then goes back as if I am not playing anything.

Also tried launching through Big Picture mode, same issue. Also tried removing the save file (AppData/Roaming/MMFApplications/), same issue. Also tried verifying the game cache, same issue. Also tried restarting Steam, same issue. My system is Windows 7 64-bit. Have not tried restarting the system.

Near the same here. Since the update, the game crash before the boot when it was working perfectly before the update.

Same here. Just a black screen now. Windows 8.1 x64
Hiei- Oct 31, 2015 @ 5:12pm
I don't even get a black screen personally, the program instant crash. But I downloaded it on another computer and it worked so pretty weird. I played the game more than 10 hours on this computer before the update and the game was working fine.

Checked the game files integrity, even deleted then redownloaded the game but still the same problem.

Can you try reinstalling the game? Nothing has changed, it just rolled back to the same version from last halloween, which will roll back to normal in a few days time.

I tried personally, and it changed nothing.

Checked the game files integrity, even deleted then redownloaded the game but still the same problem.

The problem is even if the game works fine once the rollback is done, we can't get the halloween achievement... And also, isn't it a bit weird to have to wait a week to play a game we paid? (if we take the probability the game will work again once the rollback is done which is not 100% sure now...).

Maybe the problem is "It just rolled back to the same version from last halloween", which might be an older build of the game?

There haven't been any changes since last Halloween, so it was OK to switch to that build. All I can think is that something may have gone wrong in your update, as it's barely any different to the previous build (it just enables the Halloween achievement and the pumpkin head), nothing fundamental has changed about it. Have you tried uninstalling first ("Delete local game content"), then reinstalling? Or, browse to the game's files, try lauching the EXE as an administrator. See if the EXE file has been blocked by an antivirus or something otherwise. Finally, check you're not running FRAPS.

I use the administrator profile on Windows so all my games run as admin. Exe is not blocked by the antivirus (first thing I tried, after the reinstallation, was to close all the program in the systray). Not running FRAPS either.

(If the exe has been blocked, the game wouldn't even output an error log anyway, Steam would say it can't find the executable file).

Any way to enable debug log in the game to have more informations about the error? Which doesn't seem to come specifically from my computer as the two other guys upper have the same problem.

I even checked if the game was requiring some other apps to run but it seems not, the redist directory only have DirectX in it.

And what will happen if the game does not work again once the rollback is done? We'll just be stuck with an unplayable game? Steam won't accept refund for a game played more than two hours and bought more than 15 days ago...

Can someone from the team post the old .exe to let us test if the game is working again and also to let us play the game? (right now, I want to play the game I bought and I just can't, it's a shame...) I don't think someone could use the .exe without owning it on steam (the game is already available on torrent since a while, so there no piracy issue to fear...)

For now, dunno if it's you on Twitter, but I was said "It'll rollback in a few days", nice... Remember me to say those things to customers who buy a car. It broke? Just wait a few days, it might fix itself... And even if it does, which I hope it'll, it won't let me get the halloween achievement...

Thanks!

Downloaded a crack (not the complete cracked version), just a crack of the game (Alias version), which replace the executable and the steam dll file and the game now works, which seems to proof the problem is in the update and not from our computer...

This is the exact same issue as last year. It didn't work for a lot of people then either. Check the bug thread.
Hiei- Nov 1, 2015 @ 9:09am
Thanks for the information, so there is at least luck to get the game working again later... Does your gam actually working for this new halloween or is it still broken again? (curious)

It's a shame they don't care to try to fix the issue rather than just saying people "wait until the rollback after Halloween", when I even offered to do some debugs tests if someone would sent me a debug version...

I first tested the game cracked months ago to check if it was good and decided to buy it because the game was pretty fine (though I had already finished it on the crack version) but it's pretty sure I won't buy the next ones with such methods, when the developper/publisher can break your game with an update and don't really care about it... (especially now that Steam force the games to be updated before running, which wasn't the case before).

My game will not launch with the Holloween update. It runs for about 5 seconds in the task manager then closes. I've tried everything.

Okay.
samfzgames  [developer] Nov 1, 2015 @ 11:17am
In this case, there might be an issue with how Steam applied the DRM to the build or something? Most people are running it just fine; can those of you with issues post your specs please?

My Specs:

Intel Core i7-2600K @ 3.4GHz
Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P-B3
Radeon HD6970
