Still though, could easily end up not being my thing. If you let me ramble... I loved Commandos a very long time ago, but I kind off grew out of it, at least to a point. By that I mean, Commandos was obviously a stealth game, right? But far more, it was a puzzle game, with truly one most optimal way to accomplish the objective. Thats not that cool anymore IMO.
I hope its more like FIraxis Xcom 2, rather than CAPES. Thats my take.
On the contrary. It has become cool again in the last few years:
- Shadow Tactics - Blades of the Shogun and the standalone expansion Aiko's Choice
- Desperados III
- Shadow Gambit
- War Mongrels
- Stargate Timekeepers
- Partisans 1941
And the no budget attemps:
- Red Glare
- Frigato
And the upcomig:
- Commandos Origins
- Shadow Seven
- Roma Incognita
- Sumerian Six
- 63 Days
The game is using Unreal 5, but we're not using Lumen/Nanite (so that we can get better performance on low-spec machines).
We do share some similarities with some of the games mentioned (like stealth, multiple playable characters and camera angle), but Eriksholm is quite different in how it plays. This is a much more narrative-driven experience where exploration, puzzle-solving and story all play much larger parts.
Thank god, this sounds refreshing. Too many developers are using it as a crutch nowadays, producing unoptimized Unreal slop. Threat Interactive approves
