linking account

so i have a little question..

i tried linking my account to app store but somehow it fails. saying "no account have been linked to this apple ID". i never accessed the game on my phone so do i need to do that to make the linking work? even though i don't need the account i will make on the phone?

more importantly, is it okay not to link? like... isn't my data already linked to my steam?

if i were to uninstall the game then install it on another device using my same steam account, wouldn't my data still be there?

You probably confuse with transfer account in the menu before starting the game and linking account within the game. The transfer account is for transferring data from an existing account to a different medium i.e. you have a steam account that already linked to an apple account so when you open the app on apple, you can transfer your steam account data to your app.

If you switch to another device and still use the same steam account, as long you didnt delete player data, your data probably would still there but I wouldnt trust it wholeheartedly.

Treat linking account as like a backup of sort as no matter what happen to your steam account, you can transfer the account data from your linked account like apple or google account to get the data back.

but transfer data is linking actually. when you press it in the event campaign and in the settings before you enter the game, it says the exact same thing so linking your account is the same as transferring player data (for some reason it refuses to work on apple)

though.. are you saying i should do that on the phone to get my data from steam? i thought doing it on steam can automatically link the data and i can just enter the game on my phone to use it

The english texts aren't the best here.

Linking an account, which you do after you are in-game from the "phone" menu is what has to be done first on the account/player with the progress you wish to keep, can be done on any device (except steam deck for some reason) => This links your current player data with the chosen account, so you can restore it later.

Transfer account is what you do from the main menu after installing the game on a new device (think of it as logging into your account), it restores the data from the linked account to the device you use the transfer account function on.

Since you can only "link" one account per email (whether google or apple), do not not use the "Link Account" from the phone menu in game, if your goal is to restore your progress to that device since you may end up actually overwriting your old player data.

So basically, Link = Save, Transfer = Load (or Log In).

yeah i play mainly on PC and started the game on steam so i wanted to link my account to my phone so i can play there as well just in case. steam is my main save data so i should link from PC and then load from my phone right?

Yes, link on your PC then use the transfer account from the game main menu on your phone (you will know you are doing it correctly if the player id and display name shown during the account transfer match your steam installation).

Question, I started by playing on the phone first and now I want to link my phone data to my PC (which I don't have a save for). How do I set it up then? It's saying that if I try to link accounts on PC it'll create a new account instead.

This is from the sticky about linking on steam deck (https://steamcommunity.com/app/2376580/discussions/0/601897212769784039/#c598519702166185099), but applies to all account linking and transfers as far as I know:

Good/main device+account: You MUST link from inside the game/pause menu.

Secondary device: You MUST link from the initial title screen menu. The moment you tap to start up the game, you end up creating a new junk account on that device.

So in your case the main device (data which you wish to keep) would be your phone and PC would be your secondary device (regardless of which device you actually intend to play more on).
