RGG studios, please get a new translator for upcoming releases
"Don't be so ageist."
"That's what I do in boomer terms, anyway."
"I heard that's becoming a "meme"..."

I don't know how this script could pass. Past games were never this bad, this is becoming worse by the hour and I feel the urge to start smoking like Kiryu because of it. I don't know who you hired this time, but for the love of god please get someone else for the future. This series deserves better.

Personally, I don't think it's fair to generalize. I don't have a clue who's behind the work done at Crunchy Roll, Funimation, or any of the better fansubbers out there. All I know is they do good work and put to task any contention that localizing must needs necessitate sacrifices to the original content.

Though I will say that SEGA's localizers in that AMA did come across as humble braggers. "Not gonna lie, it's pretty tough, but this kind of attention to detail is what really takes that localization to that next level." Some gourmet self-promotion, considering they spit out more or less the worst work in the business.

Stupid people will excuse the butchering of Japanese games because they are to stupid or ignorant to even understand the basics of Japanese. It's the same how every franchise is now being destroyed because NPC folks are to stupid to understand what made it great in the first place so like the NPC they are they will root for its destruction because some people that do translation said so.

Sadly you can't cure stupid, and that's what most people are these days.
In Infinite Wealth demo, Ichiban refers to a chicken with they/them pronouns.

This is Yakuza. Anything can happen, especially in a substory.

Bro that's how a modern day streamer would speak. Get on with the times old man
The only time its really bothered me was in ishin remake. People should have been fired over that hatchet job.

Ah, Ishin, right?

The game that takes place in the 1860s, where the very first NPC you talk to, a village woman, says: "It's been a minute."

That Ishin?
I can't read or write Japanese but you can tell something is so wrong in the translation on some dialogs. They always change the meaning completely and over explain things
The translation have been like this after ps3's games remastered. You could easily see the changes when comparing ps3 emulated games vs the remastered version.
Hope they will changing the translation team to more accurate one

Yeah, it's more than just some. I take at least some issue with about every 4th line of dialogue.

To their credit, they seem to have reduced the prevalence of moments where the localization is just absolutely bonkers, compared to in past games like Y7. It's still an absolute dumpster fire next to any modern anime, though.
Thank the gods that you don't play this in Portuguese... The translation is much worse, I'm sure the Portuguese translators translated all the "substories" on Google Translate, it's shameful how bad the translation is, both in the cabaret and in the secondary missions, the translation is so bad that I went back to English... As far as I could tell the main ones was pretty the same as English, at least until the part where I played in Portuguese.

I played all the Yakuzas (0, Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2, the others remastered, Yakuza 6 and Yakuza 7) in English, the only one that I didn't really like the translation of was yakuza 5, but it was still ok...
But the translation in This game (Like a fragon gaiden) in English is neither terrible nor great.... It's more in the middle, like the translation of the 5th game.
I appreciate that they continue to use kun, chan, san, etc. But other than that, the translation seems to be worse than previous games

Maybe it's because the dialogue in this game rarely gets elaborate or long-winded compared to other RGG games, but like I noted before, there are fewer instances where the localization is just tripping ba--s, compared to other games. Not too many "Atigatou." -> "You make me proud to be a mother." moments, is what I'm saying.

Playing Y7 and reading its "subtitles" at the same time was such a curse that I think I legitimately un-learned some Japanese by the end of the game.
So zoomers are already infesting localization teams and infecting them with their ignorant crap are they? wonderful. I knew that generation would destroy media sooner or later, didnt expect to happen so soon. they sure are desperate for attention and to ruin things for everyone and be proud of their ignorance, huh?

Localisation has been garbage for years but the plague that are the fanbois that swallow everything and still give this a good rating is why this will not improve.

What i normally do when i see these moronic localisation subs, i listen to the tone and the situation and self translate in non retarded dialogue for myself. Its annoying, but what to do.

Sure it's American English but I cringe every time Kiryu is saying "shut eye".

I'm also far from knowing Japanese but I myself noticed some lines 'translated' quite different from what was spoken during voiced scenes. I don't mind a little of it, but even for me it was very obvious at times.

See for yourself, it was a story demo where you get control of Ichi and have to buy a drink, chicken will stand somewhere in the city and you can interact with it.
