Is it just me or is the combat in this game absolutely TERRIBLE?
Kiryu's combat is very slow in general, Yakuza Style is very slow, quickstep is slow and you can only do it once, extreme heat is worthless, you cant carry weapons, there are only a few heat actions avaliable, bosses all have hyperarmor and will suddenly counter attack you while you're combo'ing them, the heat gauge charges painfully slow.

How did they ♥♥♥♥ it up this bad? Kiryu in Kiwami 2 was way better to play as and that game is 6 years old.

It wouldn’t be a Ryu ga gotoku game if the combat wasn’t janky, they all have that 20 year old gameplay vibe about them

thought the same that Kiryu feels pretty janky in this game
I know this is new dragon engine but after Yakuza 6 and Kiwami 2 i would've expected them to a lot better by now
especially considered that this is the game that released after Lost Judgment that i would argue had the best combat among Yakuza/Judgment series
(Yagami in Lost Judgment feels super fun to play and had various of option and thing you could do)

It is definitely a step down from Lost Judgment, ESPECIALLY agent style. None of the gadgets really "flow" in the combat at all, which is a big drop from Yagami's ability to constantly flow between moves and styles, even mid combo. At the same time, I do get why though. It's a much smaller game, and they seem to just have wanted to have fun with a few new mechanics in a game that isn't a full blown release like Judgment 3 would be (if we get J3)
Is there still the physics sillyness ? Combat wise, seems like Kiwami 2 from what you're saying.

It is still the dragon engine yes. Dragon engine therefore Dragon engine shenanigans.
Okay then...not that it is too annoying, can be distracting sometimes though.

I will say that the ragdolls generally feel less intrusive than they did in 6/K2. Just when they happen, they HAPPEN.

It's a flow you have to get into. Once you get the flow it feels pretty quick (quick enough at least).

That and having some patience that not everything happens instantly.
this^ imma keep playing hopefully the combat eventually clicks for me, played every yakuza game except for like, dead souls and kenzan and it always takes me a little bit to find my rhythm. tbh kiryu being old as hell is a valid point for him being slow but there are just those moments where i miss him being a little faster haha

No, its because in that game Kiryu didnt feel like a slow ass grandpa, the heat gauge had some use and actually charged as you attacked, extreme heat wasnt a useless feature, Kiryu could do triple quickstep, I could go on.

juggling in this game is stupid easy, but it doesn't change the fact that the combat still has several visible flaws

Agent style has a triple quickstep upgrade. And the rest is perfectly fine with upgrades as well, though obviously that's down to taste and priorities.

Agent feels like Rush from y0 with some gimmicks, Yakuza feels like beast with some gimmicks. Deffo prefer Agent for a fair amount of boss fighting since I be weavin' there with ease, though once I get Tiger Drop I'mma be on that all day.

it feel like the same garbage 6. me liked kaito files fighting style more than this
-the yakuza style is heavily nerfed compared to kiwami 2
-slow attack speed
these will make it near impossible to do full combo to the enemy
- little defense and counter option
- enemies is cheating again with extremely fast attack window ( cant land tiger drop)
- no multiple target with any style. unless you use extreme heat mode with agent style
- agent style changed the original flow that old fighting styles have which rely on cowardly tactics. just spam gears while away from the enemy and repeat

i was expecting good combat like lost judgement or like old games, but im disappointed that they just copy yakuza 6 combat and then nerf it and added another style that does not suit the game.
after this im feeling I want to replay yakuza 0/ kiwami 1 again
