Save game tweaker
I've created a simple tool, to make things a little bit easier while I'm learning the game.

Everytime it runs, it does this:
  1. load your last save game (e.g. test.dsa1save)
  2. recalculate all character values to simulate the best possible rolls during level ups
  3. write modified save game file under new name (e.g. test-hacked.dsa1save)

For example LE of a lvl 2 dwarf will be calculated as 54 = 18 + 24 (the best roll of 3W6+24, for level 0) + 6 (the best roll of 1W6, for level 1) + 6 (the best roll of 1W6, for level 2)

Yeah, it's cheating, but still kinda in the "game limits" :) Basically, it just removes bad luck rolls during character level-ups.

You can configure list of preferred talents and spells for each character. Every skill-up and spell-up is simulated as successful. No more wasted points.

It's nice way to easily try different attribute/skill/spell combinations using the same save game, without the need to restart the game with new party or something.

Anyways, if somebody's interested, I could upload it somewhere (with detailed instructions).

Sorry for the delay, almost 2 years

I abandoded the original method (save game editing) and implemented a bit simpler solution

Hello, I'm sorry for even later reply lol, but I was very interested in your tweak and sadly I couldn't get it through the link provided in your post. Is there still a chance to get it? Thanks in advance!

It should be publicly visible again.

Thanks, any chance to get the better level up rolls in existing save game? I'm honestly tired of the bad rolls lol

Hmm, I don't really remember the details, sorry.
It's been years since I played these games.

Ah, ok. Is this tweaker useable in the second title Star Trail? If so, I guess I could start a new party when I play that one with these tweaks pre-applied, although I wanted to bring my current characters from Blade of Destiny which would prevent me from using your tweaks. Oh well, I guess the better rolls will make leveling up easier though. Thanks again.

Yeah, the second game should be supported.

I'm not 100% sure (like I said I don't remmember the details), but I think the tweaks should work for an existing party as well.

Every new levelup after applying the tweaks should be optimal (no bad rolls).

You can try it, if you want. You can always revert the game files into their original state by verifying in your Steam library.

Well, honestly I only assumed it works only for new games, because instructions in readme said to start a new game, but I'll try with current save too. My characters will soon reach new level, so I guess I will find out if it works or not soon enough.

I see, maybe I'm wrong then

I'm back to report that I indeed tried the tweaker, I set everything to max in the settings of the tweaker and when I reached a new level, I noticed couple of differences. Game now gave me +6 vitality, it allowed me to pick 3 base stats instead of just 1 for both positive and negative and I received 60 points for improving my talents instead of standard 20. And that is on my current save which was created before applying those tweaks. So I don't know, is that the intended result? It feels like cheating, but I actually like it, because it feels like the leveling will be a bit faster and easier with this and I wasn't fan of that default much slower pace, especially the horrible rolls for vitality it used to give before lol

Yeah, seems about right.

The tweaker modifies the game files, so during every levelup you should get more points and best possible rolls.

But it doesn't work retroactivelly for the previous levels, unfortunately. That's why I recommended starting a new game, I guess.

An important advice though - selecting 3x skill points may cause trouble, because the game won't allow you to continue unless you spend ALL the remaining points. And 3x is probably too many at some point. At least some people reported this issue in the past.

Also, if you want to change values later, always VERIFY files in Steam first before running Tweaker again. Otherwise it would just multiply values on top of the previous ones. Which would be bad.

Anyway, I'm glad it's still working. Have fun. :steamhappy:

Yeah, I noticed I was getting so many spell points I basically improved every spell of my magician and I still had some unused points left. LOL :VBOY:

Aaaand this I learned after trying to fix the problem above by running tweaker again without verifying the files first haha :steamhappy:
