Crystal Cube Purpose?

Given dungeons regenerate each time anyway I'm struggling to see what these are for. I tried using one a few times on the first dungeon near Moon-Upon-Thoss. Only things I noticed were:
- High incidence of somewhat jank tile placements that I don't recall seeing in other dungeons where I didn't use the cube. Isolated bridge tiles in pools of water, random bits of floor in lava pools, etc.
- High incidence of Noman enemies. They do say "Impurity Detected", perhaps having something to do with the cube "warping" the reality within.

Rewards, tilesets, enemies, etc were all the same otherwise.

Don't want an outright spoiler but has anyone figured out if these actually have a use?
