Can I skip the relic dungeons? (SPOILERS probably)
Done three relic dungeons and I find them very dull. At this point the floors themselves don't threaten me but I just lost to the boss of the pale heart one (not sure what was happening there but I lost at least 600 health in one round) and I really can't bring myself to waste my life going down to the bottom again.

If I pursue Roche's questline do I need to do these things? I've got all the names and I'm poking around with the rest of the hints I've found but I'm not sure if I'm blocked until I've got all the relics.

No. I thought the same thing, since given Roche's warnings, it sounded like each relic acquired would shoot yourself in the foot. Unfortunately, if you follow Roche's tasks to their conclusion, the final area will no-sell you without all five relics and not let you in without even giving you a single clue as to why.

Gameplay wise it's so you don't just die in the last area, but if you've cleared three relics, you're overqualified at this point.

Thanks for the reply! I'm guessing I know where the final area is now...

Well that's annoying, I guess I'll just have to get a walkthrough on the blood boss. There's not enough randomness or challenge for 5 levels to be interesting...

yea i think my only real critique of the game is the relic dungeons. They are WAY too long. 6 levels + a 7th boss level is just outta control. I'd shorten it to 3 levels + a boss or at most 4 levels + a boss. 6 and a boss is way too long and it also just feels like a random number.

The real big problem with the relic dungeons isnt so much the number of floors, it's the mind-numbing path you have to take back and forth over every floor, to get a million keys/floor plates, just to get into the stair room down. And the fact that this pattern repeats on every floor. There is no real challenge, it's just pure teeeeeediuuuum. Rinse and repeat.

I actually stopped playing after my last crash because I just couldn't stomach going thru even half the relic dungeons again.

Glad I'm not the only one! I'd take either fewer floors or some huge change to the way floors are constructed (getting a key to get another key to get another key...) but I suspect the latter would be a pretty major effort.

Totally agree. Especially because generation is not perfect yet and 6 chances for generation to brick the dungeon is... not great.

A treasure goblin (on fire) destroyed a crucial pressure plate of the 6th floor of veils last night and I - just couldn't bring myself to do it all over again, especially because it was my second attempt after a foolish death.

Long. Tedious. And deflating if something goes wrong.

Also the fact that food rots REALLY quickly, so it's almost impossible to keep enough food to survive a reasonably long time.

I've found that eating rotten food isn't even that bad. It's just some status build-up. If you get sick from it, you can just wait it our or cure it with a potion.

FOUR HOURS!

FOUR HOURS to get CLOSE to the top of the Tower, and one stupid Gazer kills me because Deathly Sick and my stupid Wolf Specter NOT touching the damn thing!

The relic dungeons are WAY too long, especially The Tower.

Besides the Tower, I took to just diving down pits and trapdoors to get through faster (especially if I died to a boss). You lose a bit of health and a few random potions, but I had so much stuff it really didn't matter.
